Margaret Klukas Obituary

Margaret Miller Klukas, 84, of Vernon, beloved wife of Martin Klukas for 58 years, passed away Sept. 23, 2017, at Vernon Manor after a hard and courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

She was the daughter of the late Robert Brown Miller and Agnes Morrow Lamont Miller. She graduated from New Britain High School in 1951 and worked at the New Britain Herald before moving to Vernon to start a family. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years, was Troop 11 Boy Scout and Webelos Leader, active in Lake Street School PTO, and worked part-time at Jeremiah Junction Cross Stitch for 20 years.

Margaret was a member of The First Congregational Church of Vernon and was a member of the Sanctuary Choir and Joyful Noise Bell Choir. She also was involved with The Vernon Chorale for 20 years. She very much enjoyed singing in the Trinity Covenant Church "Great Joy" musicals making many friends along the way. Margaret loved going to the Water's Edge Resort with family and friends for 30 years, also taking trips for 13 years to Marco Island, Florida, and visiting Scotland twice.

Margaret was a kind, gentle and caring woman who gave so much and expected little in return. She loved sitting at the kitchen table with a hot cup of tea and an English muffin. She will be deeply missed.

She leaves behind her two sons, Robert and Lisa Klukas of Tolland and Rodney Klukas and his wife, Mindy Finman, of Avon; as well as two adored grandchildren, Natalie and Jared Klukas. She is survived by two sisters, Mae and Carl Brinck of Cromwell and Roberta Thurott of Wallingford and many nieces. She was predeceased by her sister, Nancy Bailey, of Houston, Texas. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Lee Mackenzie, of New York City.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held in celebration of her life at The First Congregational Church of Vernon Saturday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers and because of Margaret's love of music, the family requests donations to the R. Leslie Childs Scholarships Fund, c/o The First Congregational Church of Vernon, 695 Hartford Tpke., Vernon, CT 06066. These scholarships are intended for young members of FCCV who exhibit exceptional musical talents and are named after R. Leslie Childs, former FCCV choir director.

The family would like to thank the staff at Vernon Manor and Hospice for their care of Margaret through this difficult time.

My condolences to the family in the loss of a very sweet, kind lady. I am so glad to have known Margaret. We met at READ and her patience and smile were always an inspiration to those of us who experienced the challenges we often faced in that program. She was a lovely person and will be much missed.
