Michael Wambolt Obituary

Michael R. Wambolt, 61, of Enfield, husband of Ann (Douglass) Wambolt, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, in the comfort of his home with his wife by his side and favorite cat Snickers on his bed.

Michael was born Sept. 19, 1953, in Hartford, the son of Robert and Alberta (Christopovich) Wambolt of Ellington. Michael received his undergraduate degree from University of Connecticut and his Masters in Public Administration degree from University of Hartford. Michael retired from the state of Connecticut in 2009 after more than 30 years, most recently eight years with the Department of Public Safety as chief fiscal administrative officer. Michael was an avid collector of minerals, fossils and meteorites. He also took pride in being a frequent winner of the Hartford Courant's caption contests and was known to be a very good cook with BBQ ribs, taking the blue ribbon.

In addition to Michael's parents and his wife, he is also survived by his brother, Harry Wambolt and his wife, Kris; and two children, Joseph and Deanna Wambolt, all of Ellington; his sister, Erika Wambolt and her husband, Michael Ferguson, of Pennsburgh, Pennsylvania; his mother-in-law, Mary "Lorraine" Douglass of Farmington; two sisters–in-law, Clare D'Appollonio and her husband, Bill, of Scotland, and their two children, Stacy D'Appollonio of Plainville and Jason D'Appollonio of Hampton; Mary Lloyd of Hackettstown, New Jersey; a nephew and niece, Adam and Mary Reed of Michigan; and a special friend of more than 30 years, Bob Santa of Columbia.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield.

Funeral services and burial for Michael will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse & Health Services of Connecticut, Attn: Hospice and Palliative Care, 8 Keynote Drive, Vernon, CT 06066.

I am very sorry to hear of Michael's death. My wife, Roberta, and I met him at the Courant's get-together two summers ago, and enjoyed talking with him. I found his caption contest entries very funny. Lewis Shilane
