Newton Emerson Obituary

Newton R. "Newt" Emerson, 83, of Manchester, loving husband for 60 years to Marilyn (Miller) Emerson, died Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Hartford Hospital after a sudden illness at home.

Newt was born in Hartford Dec. 23, 1932, son of Albin and Dorothy (Arnold) Emerson. He was raised in East Hartford and Bolton, served stateside with the Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War, and has resided in Manchester since the mid-1950s. He retired from the information technology department of the Travelers Insurance Company in 1998 after 43 years of service. Newt was a longtime member of the Manchester Sportsman Club and was a boating enthusiast.

With his wife, he is survived by three children, Newton R. Emerson II and his wife, Marcy, of Chaplin, Todd Emerson and his wife, Jennifer, of Columbia, and Meredith Castellano, of Keene, New Hampshire; his sister, June Emerson, of Vernon; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A visiting time for family and friends will be Friday, March 18, at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 3 p.m. Burial will be private in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford.
