Richard Domler Obituary

Richard "Dick" Albert Domler, Sr., 87, of East Hartford, loving husband for 60 years of the late Eleanor (Kaminski) Domler, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.

Born in Hartford on Nov. 19, 1929, a son of the late Anne (Mortensen) Domler Phillips, he had been a resident of East Hartford since 1945. Dick, a 1947 graduate of East Hartford High School, enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a proud veteran during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, Dick was employed for 33 years by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. Dick belonged to the Army and Navy Club and B.P.O.E. Lodge 1893, both in Manchester. He was a member and past Commander of the American Legion Post 56, Glastonbury, and also belonged to NARFE and the National Association of Letter Carriers. A devout Catholic, Dick was an active communicant of St. Christopher Church in East Hartford where he was the coordinator of the church food bank for over 35 years with his late wife Eleanor, and was a member of the Retirees Social Club. He also volunteered numerous hours and days at other local food banks in the East Hartford community. For all their efforts within the church, Dick and Eleanor were named recipients of the prestigious St. Joseph Medal Award from the Archdiocese of Hartford. More than anything, he was a loving dad, grandpa and great-grandpa who delighted in time spent with his family.

He will forever be missed by his seven children, Linda McGee and her husband, Tom of East Hartford, Diane Allen and her husband, Tom of Windsor Locks, Nancy Balavender and her husband, Ernest of Kensington, Barbara Belske and her husband, Walter of East Hartford, Anita Morrison and her husband, John of East Hartford, Richard A. Domler, Jr. and his wife, Leslie of East Hartford, Judy Paleski and her husband, Stanley of Broad Brook; 11 adored grandchildren, Michael Allen, David Allen and his wife, Laura, Steven Allen, Eric Belske, Amy Heritage and her husband, Kevin, Jeremy Morrison, Gregg Morrison, Justin Domler, Kyle Domler, Ashley Paleski, and Joshua Paleski; four cherished great-grandchildren, Christina and Sean Allen, Lucas and Isaac Belske; several nieces, nephews, many dear friends and a special thanks to Sue. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, Dick was predeceased by a brother, Leonard Domler and his wife, Fran; and a sister, Arline Biancalani and her husband, Joe.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 9 a.m. from the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St., East Hartford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Christopher Church, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park, (Section 25), Elm Street, Rocky Hill.

Dick's family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, Feb. 20, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dick's name may be made to St. Christopher Church, 538 Brewer St., East Hartford, CT 06118.
