Richard Hellyar Obituary

Richard W. Hellyar, 79, of Enfield, beloved husband of Brenda (Savage) Hellyar, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 25, 2021, at Touchpoint at Chestnut in East Windsor.

Born in Hartford on March 17, 1942, he was the son of the late Percy and Corine (Levesque) Hellyar and grew up in Hartford before moving to Enfield in 1972. Richard served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He worked as a steel fabricator for Standard Structural Steel for over 40 years before retiring. Richard was a member of the Elks Lodge in Enfield and a longtime communicant of St. Martha Church in Enfield. He enjoyed camping and fishing as well as bowling and golfing. He was an avid New York Giants fan and loved taking trips to Cape Cod with his family.

Besides his wife Brenda, he leaves three children, Stacey Roberge and her husband, Matt of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, Heather Deane and her husband, David of Wilbraham, and Bridget Hellyar and her partner, Adam Bibeault of Enfield; five grandchildren, Christina and Kevin Roberge, Andrew and Alyssa Deane, and Briana Denehy; two great-grandchildren, Lily and Grace Roberge; and four siblings, Ralph Hellyar and his wife, Judy, Paul Hellyar and his wife, Carol, William Lewis and his wife, Franca, and Beverly Dorion and her husband, Hank; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Gary Hellyar.

His family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 30, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield.

His funeral will take place on Friday, Dec. 31, beginning at 8:30 a.m., at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m., at St. Martha Church, Enfield. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam.
