Salvatore Ragno Obituary

Salvatore L. Ragno
Salvatore L. Ragno, 95, of Enfield, CT, passed away peacefully at home on August 8, 2025. Born on February 21, 1930, in Enfield, CT, he was the son of the late Sebastiano and Francesca (Rinaldi) Ragno.
Sal graduated from Enfield High School and enlisted in the United States Army, serving until 1953 as a cook, a role that sparked his lifelong passion for food. After his honorable discharge, he met Jean Marie Albano, and the two married on July 4, 1955. In his family, it was tradition to marry on a holiday so the family business would not have to close for a wedding.
A talented and beloved cook, Sal owned Ragno's Market and Catering on Pearl Street in Enfield for decades, known as "The Meatball King," customers would often line up to enjoy his cooking. He is fondly remembered for his sunny personality and singing Italian songs both for customers and while working by himself. A soft heart, he quietly made many contributions of food and meals to both town organizations and individuals going through hard times.
Sal loved all kinds of music and had a wonderful singing voice. He enjoyed raising a garden at his home for many years. He enjoyed watching UConn Basketball as well as the New York Yankees and was a proud member of the 1948 Hall of Fame Enfield High School undefeated football team.
He is survived by his three children, John T. Ragno, Frances (Ragno) Kennedy, and Steven Ragno; three grandchildren, Angela Kennedy, Kristin Pease, and John J. Ragno; four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Joseph, Sophia, and Vance; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. One of nine siblings, Sal was the last to pass away. He is predeceased by his wife, Jean M. Ragno; his brothers Louis, Charles, Thomas, Michael, and James Ragno; and his sisters Anna Cardarella, Mary DeCaro, and Anita Gregorie.
Family and friends are invited to gather for Visitation on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield, CT. A Funeral Home Service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, followed by burial at St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery, Enfield, where Sal will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife.
