Stuart Edwards Obituary

Stuart I. Edwards
1941 - 2024
Stuart Irvin Edwards, 83, of Vernon, CT passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024 after a five year battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Stu was born on Sept. 7, 1941, the son of the late Irvin and Marjory (Nickerson) Edwards in Rockville where he lived his entire life. Stu is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Norine (Zahner) Edwards and his two sons, Keith Edwards and Greg Edwards, his wife Vanessa and two cherished grandchildren, Devon and Brooke Edwards. Stu was predeceased by his brother Clifford (and his wife, Mary) Edwards. He also leaves behind many lifelong, dear friends.
Stu graduated from Rockville High School Class of 1959 and proudly served our country with the United States Marine Corps. from 1959–1964. In 1965 he married Norine and they lived in Rockville all of their lives and raised a family. In 2006 Stu retired after a career in the printing industry.
Stu was a member of the Vernon Historical Society, Friends of Rockville Public Library, Tolland and Vernon Senior Centers, Gene Pitney Commemorative Committee, and past member of the Town of Vernon Cemetery Commission.
Anyone who knew Stu will agree that his love for music, which began as a teenager, was his passion in life. Listening to records with friends and fellow music lovers, especially on the jukebox, gave him so much pleasure. He enjoyed a diverse variety of music but his favorite was Rock & Roll of the Fabulous 50s and early 60s.
Ever since Stu was a young boy he had a love for baseball and was a devoted New York Yankees fan. He would often reminisce about the old days and his favorite player, the Great Mickey Mantle. Stu was also a faithful UCONN Husky Men's and Women's Basketball fan and enjoyed attending many Final Four games around the country throughout the years.
Stu treasured his time spent with lifelong, close friends and watching his grandchildren grow up. He loved attending Brooke's many dance recitals and Devon's basketball, football and baseball games, traveling near and far. He was such a proud Grandpa and family always came first with "Poppy."
Stuart will be greatly missed. A private graveside service with Military Honors will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stuart's memory to the Midwest Food Bank, 440 Adams St., Manchester, CT 06040 or the Vernon Historical Society, PO Box 2055, Vernon, CT 06066. I remember Dad, David Reutter, talking about the old times and the gang that used to chum around Rockville, camping out and hanging Leo's basement. I hope is that they have all reconnected, and a talking about old times and talking about the lives they have had after they parted ways. Dad's greatest joy was his grandkids, but cherished talking about Stu, Leo and Phil. With Sympathy. Joan Reutter Kratzke

Our most sincere sympathy to Norrine and the Edwards families. I have so many fond memories of times Stu and I shared. Little league baseball, midget league basketball, Walter William Wisacowski´s jr Bowling league, setting pins at Italian American Friendship club, playing pool in Bachiochi´s basement, baseball at Jake´s and collecting records from Bud´s. Both four years serving our country. We grew up together at a wonderful time. I will miss Stu forever rest in piece my dear friend.
