Thinking of you today, Aaron.
Its been 17 years since we were able to last hang out, and I havent ever forgotten. I still think of all of the things we used to talk about, the things you would confide in me, and how good we were at following our own agenda in class junior and senior year. I sure miss your music, and knowing someone like you. RIP Brother.

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Aaron, but I am remembering on
this day he gave his all.
He is my hero.

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Dear Family, It is hard to believe that a year has passed since Aaron escaped the bonds of this earth to be with our Lord and Savior who is Jesus Christ, in heaven's realm. I thank God for the gift of the Holy Spirit which has allowed us as a family to experience some hours of peace over the passed year as we contemplate the contribution that this young man made to our lives, to the Nation and to the effort of Peace. I can rest upon the promise of Jesus written in John 14:27 which reads "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." Oh, How I love Jesus! Aaron: we love, miss and remember you always.

I can tell you that we, the *1/7 Families*, also grieve with you, as 1/7 is a very close knit Unit. His passing has touched people beyond imagination. Some of us spouses, who keep in touch via *MYSPACE* etc., during this difficult deployment, have created our own *memorials* especially for Aaron,(but would respectfully remove them, if you feel it to be inappropriate), for we Love and are Very Proud of ALL of Our Marines, and creatively express it. We know that it is Only by the Grace of God, that we are not the one's walking in your shoes. It is very clear Aaron will live on in the many hearts and memories of the people he has left such joyful impressions on, in his life, and then some... THAT'S EXTRAORDINARY! Dear Mr. and Mrs. Simons,
Unfortunately, I did not have a chance to meet Aaron in person. However, after hearing about Aaron from my daughter Karin in several telephone calls, I feel like I know him to some small degree. He was a good friend to my daughter. She speaks very, very highly of him. My daughter and I are very close and if she cared for someone, he had to be very special. I have great respect for her judgement and opinions of people.
Today, Karin told me about the trip to collect Aaron in Oakland. She described in detail how his procession home was honored by law enforcement, firemen, the Patriot Riders, well-wishers and bystanders along the route. She went on to describe the ceremonies for Aaron in Modesto and her chance to connect with Michael. I was so happy to hear that Aaron was honored as the hero he is. I also have to say that as a parent it broke my heart. I cannot imagine what you have been through since April 24th. I wanted to do something, so as soon as I heard about Aaron, I asked the Nuns in the convent here at St. Michael's Academy to pray for Michael. I hope that is alright with you. Many of them are my teaching colleagues and a few have met Karin. It touched their hearts when I told them about Aaron. I know Aaron is in a much better place now, resting in the arms of the Lord. Thank you for including Karin in the process of saying goodbye to your son. It helped her in dealing with her own grief and sense of loss. As she probably told you, she lost her grandfather who had also been a Marine just the week before Aaron was taken. I think being with your family helped her immensely.
God Bless You and Michelle, Michael and Rachel.

to the family and friends of Aaron Simmons,
My personal memories of Aaron go back to his elementry school days when he was a friend of my boys and played on Little League teams with them. I was very touched by the story of his journey through life as a creative and helpful young man, and was deeply saddened to see such a promising life cut short. I couldn't attend the funeral, but was there at the mortuary when they brought him home. Aaron is the third local Marine we've lost recently, and we have all felt each loss. My wife Lori and I go to Lakewood every Sunday morning to see our friend Bunny, and we will always stop for a moment and remember Aaron and Juanna as well. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten in our household. I know you will always feel this loss, but I trust that the passage of time will make this burden a little easier to bear. I hope it helps you to know that so many of us share in your loss.

Hi sweetie,
I know that you're in a much better place now but I still can't help but to feel selfish and wish you were still with us. You were like my little brother! As much as we razzed eachother and as annoyed as you got with me when I'd give you crap about all of your crazy tattooes. I love you babe. I'm going to miss the midnight phone calls, you coming over to the house and just laying on my couch and eating everything in my fridge. I'll miss the little guitar sessions in my living room, and how you would play until Alex fell asleep. As much as you were freaked out by the baby, I could see the intrigue in your eyes. I miss you. But I'll always have the memories and the pictures. I know you're watching us now. See ya again sometime. Love

Hi Aaron.. I know you won't remember me because you were only a toddler the last time I saw you but I remember you.. very well. In fact, it was a church campout to Bass Lake when I was 12.. you walked right up to me.. hugged me.. picked up a pebble from the dirt and gently placed it in the palm of my hand.. you whispered into my ear "hold on to it and don't lose it".. so that's exactly what I did.. I held on to it.. for 15 years it sat in my jewelry box wrapped in a post-it note that said "rock aaron gave me at bass lake".. I don't know why I kept it all those years or what the significance is.. but I do know that when I saw your picture in the paper last week, I went searching for that pebble... didn't find it.. but rest assured.. I never really lost it either.. Rest in peace Aaron..

To Aaron's family and friends-
My family and I are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. We send our deepest empathy as we lost our Marine on 11/30/05 in Fallujah. We are comforted to know that our Marines are serving their country with such honor and bravery. We are so proud of our Marines and all of our other service men and women for all that they have done and continue to do to keep us safe and to give us the freedom we have that so many take for granted.
They are true Heroes and need to always be remembered for their selflessness and sacrifice to better our world. We will forever be united in the loss of our heros. We are so sorry for your loss and hope our words will ease some of the pain, and maybe fill some of your emptiness.

My son, Cpl. Morgan Gillette, and Matthew Mantel brought Aaron into my life while attending Davis High School. Aaron's quiet and respectful disposition inspired my son and Matt in so many ways. His musical talent was the thing that brought the three together and they would play for hours together in my living room or contemplate playing. I always held a special place in my heart for Aaron because he was different and happy with who he was and such an inspiration to us all, not only musically, but spiritually. I am honored I was given the opportunity to know Aaron, though only for such a short time. I am deeply saddened by the loss of a great, brave and talented young man who made our lives better for knowing him. May you rest in peace, Aaron and know that we will all miss you.

our hearts are just aching for you. Our son is over there in the same area. He is in Baker Co. Our son assures us that Aaron will never be forgotten by his fellow Marines and he will make sure that people back home will not forget the ultimate sacrifice he made by being a Marine.
Please accept our condolences from this Marine family.

I remember playing basketball in 6th grade just outside Mrs. Durham's class ever recess period. It was always the girls vs. the boys. Aaron was always determined to beat us girls. He might've been rough around the edges during the game, but you knew he had a soft, sensitive side.
I still can't believe it. I send my thoughts to his family.

Our son, who is in Iraq in the 1/7 Charlie Co, 4th Platoon, contacted us this morning about Aaron's death. He said he was a good friend of his. One of the senior Marines said that they looked alike and Aaron replied "well, at least I'm not bald like him!"My son said Aaron was a great friend and was well loved by everyone. Our hearts and prayers go out to all his family and many friends.

It has been a long time, but I will never forget the long nights of JetFighter during elementary school and trips to the quickie mart after class. I am not suprised at all that you had the courage and bravery to fight for the wellbeing of others, you stood up for me more than once when I was unwilling to do so. You will be sorely missed.
Until we meet again, my thoughts are with you and your family.

Dear Simons Family,
We would like to express our deep reget and sadness at the loss of your son, Aaron. We called our son, Jesse in Portland to tell him after we saw the article in the paper. We have many pleasant memories of Aaron and Jesse as they were growing up in high school.
I know words cannot began to ease your loss, but I want you to know Aaron was a credit to his country and a fine Marine. He came over to our house after basic training and was standing at the parade rest position without realizing it, while talking to us. We and Jesse would like to honor him by attending his funeral.
Best regards to you,
Craig and Cindy Julsgard

Dear Simons family,
My heart goes out to you today for your unconsolable loss. Although I do not know your son, I keenly feel your loss. My father served in Vietnam and my high school best friend, Tommy Thompson was a navy seal. I will be forever grateful that they both came home safely. Your beautiful Aaron will not be forgotten and we cannot thank him enough for his service to our country and for protecting the freedoms we so richly enjoy and often take for granted. Our love and prayers are with you at this most heartbreaking time.

Lord, I wish I knew what to say.
My son Justin served with Aaron. He said he was one of his best friends, as I'm sure he was to many.
When he told me of the news, I could hear the heartbreak in his voice, and it broke my heart. I cannot imagine yours. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
I know you will meet him again, someday. I look forward to making his acquaintance.
God bless you and your family. He brings home early his dearest... Aaron is with him now.

I would never have learned anything about music if it had not been for Aaron. He gave me my first 2 real guitars and taught me how to play. Morrrgan, Jesse, and I would follow him around waiting to hear the next riff that would blow us away, and of course try to steal it.
He also taught me about: giving... Aaron gave so very freely and joyfully, listening... he always kistened with such intrigue and taught me to do so, girls... he showed me how to not flex and try to converse on a mutual topic, and showed me how to break away from my angry disposition "no macho stuff".
Aaron is the most unique friend i have ever had. From the day I met him, to the days of Poetic Insanity, right up until his last day, i regarded Aaron as the best musician on Earth. Now he plays for our Heavenly Father, i know he's playing right now, and God has never been more entertained.
Thank you Aaron for the memories, thank you for steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and all the other great aspects of music you showed me. I will play on and think of you whenever i plug in. You lived as a hero, "The Memory Remains".
My Family and I offer our prayers and love to Aarons Family, Mr. and Mrs. Simons who always fed me and spoke to me with respect, and his siblings who were always around share a laugh.

Our son, Thomas, joined when your son joined, graduated when your son graduated. They were deployed together, and each night in Iraq, slept in bunks next to each other. They were brothers. Our hearts are breaking for your loss. Your family is in our thoughts, in our hearts and in our prayers.
