Alice Haughton Obituary

Alice Haughton 1930—2016
Alice Mae Haughton, 85, of Davis, IL., died Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Rockford Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born June 13, 1930 in Rockford, IL., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley and Edna (Burch) Newman. Alice graduated from Winnebago High School. On April 30, 1949, she married James E. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and baking, even winning prizes with her pies. She always had a garden and enjoyed being outdoors, always busy, hardworking, and never afraid to get her hands a little dirty. She also worried a bit, always reminding you to remember your gloves or drink plenty of water, she lived to care for those she loved. Survivors include her daughter, Kathy (Rodney) Hill; grandson, Jeremy (Leah) Dixon, both of Davis, IL.; great grandsons, Mason and Wyatt; grandson, Brandon Hill; brother, Wayne Newman; sister, Ruth (George) Moate; brother, David Newman; sister, Janice Seyler; brother, Paul (Dawn) Newman; sister, Lois (Dewey) Heslop and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Linda Adkins, brothers Robert and John Newman and sisters Mary Pals and Bernice Sutherland Keller.

I shared the same birthdate as Alice. We rode to work together from Durand. I have many great memories of times we shared. We even took a vacation together to the Wisconsin Dells. Alice was a very special lady. Soft spoken, easy going, always a pleasure to be around. This world has lost a very classy lady. My sincere condolences to you, Kathy and your family
