She later attended Chicago Teachers College, graduating in 1946. Claryce earned her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Illinois in 1949. She then went on to earn her doctorate degree from Springfield College in Massachusetts. Claryce taught Physical Education for the Chicago Public School District for over twenty years. Claryce became a resident of Lake Carroll in 1991. Lake Carroll was more than just a place to live; it was an extension of her family. She was named "Volunteer of the Year" at Lake Carroll and was a key member in the planning and construction of the Lake Carroll pool. Claryce volunteered her time and was recognized as an "Outstanding Volunteer" by the American Red Cross. Claryce enjoyed painting and attending theater with her family and friends. She also enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. Most of all, Claryce cherished spending time with her family and friends, and her dog, Baxter. Claryce will be dearly missed by her brother, Walter Holmberg, Jr., of Bettendorf, Iowa; four nieces and nephews, Scott Holmberg of Lyndon, Illinois, Walter Holmberg III of Prophetstown, Illinois, Cheri (Bruce) Rhodes of Lake Ozark, Missouri, and Gene (Linda) Holmberg of Bettendorf; five great-nieces and nephews, Katelyn Rhodes, Kyle Rhodes, Kimberly (Chapman) Arter, Shannon Holmberg, and Erika Holmberg; four great-great nieces and nephews, Lilly Drake, Xander Whitton, Ethan Arter, and Maxwell Arter; and her neighbor, Mike Vidinich. I met Clare at Tamarak! An amazing and inspiring woman! Her honesty and spirit were an inspiration to me as a teacher. There will never be another! Her Christmas letters and the birthday cards meant so much! She will be missed!
