KATHRYN J. SPRINGER, 52 FREEPORT - Kathryn J. Brown Springer, 52, of Freeport, passed away on May 9, 2013. Kathryn was born on September 22, 1960, the daughter of Gwenn and Jean (Harkness) Brown in Savanna, Illinois. She attended and graduated from Freeport High School. She was first married to William Bumford and later to Gary Springer. She worked at various local businesses, including the Stephenson Nursing Home, Freeport. She bred and sold Cocker Spaniel puppies for several years. Kathryn enjoyed fishing, creating crafts and listening to country music, especially Reba McEntyre. Most of all, Kathryn cherished being a mother and loved her children. Kathryn will be dearly missed by her mother, Jean A. Brown of Freeport; a daughter, Jolene A. Bumford of Hanover; a son, Kasey L. Springer of Freeport; seven sisters, Patty Ann Carius of Benton, Wisconsin, Pamela K. Heck of Hanover, Judith L. Pope of Freeport, Sandra M. Simmons of Freeport, Sharon L. Brown-Raymond of Freeport, Kimberly S. Brown of Hanover and Teresa E. Eichmeier of Freeport; one grandson, Fedil F. Brooks II of Freeport. She is preceded in death by her father, Gwenn V. Brown; and one sister, Gwendolyn M. Brown. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 17, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. A gathering will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial fund has been established in Kathryn's memory.
