Dr. Carol Sue (Bieck) Bogardus Reynolds
January 30, 2022
Dr. Carol Sue (Bieck) Bogardus Reynolds passed away peacefully at home on January 30, 2022 after a long battle with lung cancer. Her husband, Dr. Walter (Ren) Reynolds, son Jason Bogardus, and step-daughter Nanci Egan were at her side. Carol was born at the Fort Lewis, Washington US Army base to Chester and Nedra Bieck on August 5, 1943 and, along with younger brother Gary, spent her childhood and high school years in Lexington, Nebraska. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Chemistry from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, where her life-long love of Nebraska football began. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1965. She then attained her Laboratory Technician certification from the University of Nebraska, Omaha.
After moving to Eugene, Oregon with her first husband, David Bogardus, she fulfilled the requisite coursework to apply to medical school, thereby answering her lifelong calling for a career in medicine. During this time she also became a mother to son Jason. Carol graduated from the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center in Portland, Oregon in 1977 and entered into a three-year Internal Medicine residency. Upon completion she joined a well-established medical partnership in northwest Portland and the Good Samaritan Hospital medical staff. She enjoyed 25 years of successful private practice and was elected the first female medical staff president in the state of Oregon.
In 1992 she married Ren, the love of her life, and welcomed his three children Jack Reynolds (Dorothy), Megan Talalemotu (Ina) and Nanci Egan (Mike) into their family. Carol and Ren enjoyed many activities together, including tennis, sailing on the Columbia River, and golf. As accomplished bareboat sailors, they hosted friends and family on numerous sailing vacations around the world including the San Juan Islands and Caribbean. After retiring in 2005, she and Ren split their time between Portland and Palm Desert, where they were active members of the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club and Desert Falls Country Club. Carol and Ren cherished time spent with their children and nine grandchildren Conor, Kiuna, Emma, Mataio, Hazel, Lola, Lily, Aidan and Finnegan.
Ever willing to lend a hand, tuck in a grandchild, or go for a hike with friends and family, Carol was rarely idle and lived a full and active life to the very end. Her strength and power as a woman, and her many personal and professional accomplishments, were inspirational. She will be fondly remembered for her midwestern work ethic, boundless energy, positive attitude, healthy cooking, perfectly-matched outfits and warm smile.

Yesterday I heard the very sad news about Dr. Bogardus. Doc was not only my mother´s doctor she was mine until she retired. Dr. Wascow then took over. I will always remember her as the kind, bubbly well fashion put together, even with the lab coat, she had it all. Out of all the doctors I´ve had over the years Dr. Bogardus was truly the best! She will always be remembered by me. Sail on Carol

We were saddened to read of Carol's death, Ren. That she could die peacefully and be at home with family is something we would all wish for when our lives end. Though your personal loss is very real, you have years of beautiful memories. May God's Grace buoy your spirits and sustain you at this time of grief.

Ren: Kay and I were saddened to learn of Carol's passing. She was a very special person as was the wonderful marriage that you two shared. Although it has been a very, very long time since we last saw you and Carol, the times spent on the river in that Ericson 23 are still in my memories. We hope that you are doing okay during what must be a very difficult period. If there is anything that Kay and I can do, please feel free to ask. If you need a brief break in the country, please give me a call and swing by to visit anytime. We're 20 minutes from downtown at the farm we've had since 1988 3 miles east of the north Wilsonville I-5 exit. Would love to see you.
You and Carol are in our thoughts and prayers.
All the best!

I am saddened to hear of Dr Bogardus´ death. She was my primary care provider for a number of
years and was kind, caring, thoughtful, and
thorough. Her care was exemplary. An excellent
physician. Thinking of her family.
