Jane Schmutte Obituary

Jane Louise (DeBoer) Schmutte

January 21, 1946 - February 20, 2021

Jane Louise (DeBoer) Schmutte was born on January 21, 1946 in Lincoln, NE. She went to be with her Heavenly Father and loved ones in Christ who have gone before her February 20, 2021 at the age of 75. She grew up on her great grandfather's farm by Holland, NE and was baptized and made confession of a personal faith in Christ at an early age in the Holland Reformed Church. She faithfully attended church services, Sunday school and other church activities and began using her musical, teaching and leadership talents to serve the Lord. Serving Christ her Lord and Savior was her greatest passion throughout her life. She graduated from Hickman High School in 1964 and went on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1968. While at NWU she was a varsity basketball cheerleader, member of Willard Sorority and an active member of the band. In 1986 she completed her Masters Degree in Education at the University of Nebraska. On August 19, 1966 Jane married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Jerry Schmutte. They were blessed with two children and were married for 54 years. They both enjoyed rewarding careers, which gave them opportunities to live in Lincoln, McCook, Holland and Hickman, Nebraska as well as Sioux City, IA and Dakota Dunes, SD. Upon retirement they moved to Lincoln, NE, the place the called "home" to enjoy a lifetime of friends and family. Jane's life was driven by her love for God and people. Throughout her life, she had a passion for prayer, Bible study, missions. She was hospitable to all and loved to entertain and decorate. She was creative, artistic, musical and spent time reading, drawing, sewing, decorating and playing the piano. But most of all, she looked forward to the opportunities she had to spend time playing with her grandchildren. The anchor and strength of her life was Jesus Christ and the Word of God. Wherever God planted her, she shared the love and salvation of Jesus with many. Jane often reminded others that "God never asks us for our abilities...ONLY our AVAILABILITY." Jane leaves behind her husband Jerry Schmutte and two children: daughter, Jana and son-in-law, Chuck Olsen from Norfolk, NE; her son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Jenny Schmutte from Roca, NE; four grandchildren: Brenden (Lindsay) Olsen and Andrew (Cassidy) Olsen from Norfolk, NE, Ava and Jackson Schmutte from Roca, NE; and three great-grandchildren; Payton, Bowen and Stella Olsen from Norfolk, NE. Nephews: Mark, Jim and Corey DeBoer of Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Jeanette DeBoer from Firth, NE and brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Diane DeBoer from Fort Worth, TX. There will be a visitation at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th Street, Lincoln, Tuesday, Feb. 23, from 5-8pm. A celebration of life will be Wednesday, Feb 24, at 11:00am at Faith Bible Church, 6201 S. 84th Street in Lincoln, NE. Memorials can be made payable to Country Bible Church, 16140 S 148th St, Bennet, NE 68317 or Youth for Christ 6401 Pine Lake Road, Lincoln, NE 68516 in Jane's honor.

I was Jane´s dialysis nurse in Sioux City. We became good friends, she was a great joy! I´ve thought of her often since her move from the Dakota Dunes! My daughters and I had a great time buying things before her move. Prayers for her family.

Thankful for her legacy. Treasure our friendship. Began in 4H...through days at NWU...and spent the last few years in a Community Group connected with Country Bible Church. Her prayers were answered! She´s seen Jesus! And we know one day we´ll be reunited. In the meantime we´ll carry on

I have such fond memories of Jane. We taught together and we both loved our Morningside Mustangs when Jerry coached men´s basketball.
She loved Jesus and it showed on her beautiful face!
She dressed impeccably and looked stunning each day!
My sympathies to Jerry and their children!
Jane I´ll see you on the other side!
