Dear Diane and Family,

My friend, Bunni (Howland) Slater told me of Leroy's passing. You and your family have my most sincere sympathy. The two of you were together since Junior High, so his death must leave a huge hole in your lives. I didn't know him well, but I have always looked up to you as models of what a loving couple should be. I'm sorry I didn't hear sooner. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all. Sheryl

Dear Diane and Family,

So sorry to hear of Leroy's death. He gave me my first job in a funeral home and did much to help me learn. I worked for him the summer Patrick was away in mortuary school. My prayers are with you all.

Dear Diane & Family,

Al & I were saddened to learn of LeRoy's sudden illness and death. May the Lord help you through these difficult days. And may your heart soon be filled with the wonderful memories you shared rather than the sadness of his loss you now feel.

God Bless you all.

With our sincere sympathy.

Dearest Diane,

I just received word from Bill Bywater that Lee had died...what a shock...I'm so sorry. Lee hired me in about 1974 to live/work at Beckman-Butherus Funeral Home in Iowa City. I was a student at the University of Iowa. The thought of free rent, and the opportunity to make a little money on the side, was too good to resist for a very poor college student. My Dad had died when I was in junior high, so I was always a little uncomfortable around a funeral home setting. Lee was such a wonderful man. He made me feel welcome and like a part the family. On a number of occasions I came out to your place to babysit the kids. Once we had the VA ambulance contract, on Christmas Eve, Lee asked me if I would do him a favor...I didn't hesitate to say yes. So John Kalsbeck and I drove a man who was terminal with cancer, home to Kansas, to be with his family...one of my most memorable Christmas'. On a lighter note, Lee had me dress up like a chauffeur and pick-up some of Bill Bywater's friends at the Cedar Rapids airport. That was my first visit with Bill, and we have been friends ever since. I have so many fond memories...thank you Diane for sharing Lee and your family with me. I am a better person today because our paths crossed.

Take care,

Charlie Becker

Suz and I were shocked to here of Leroys passing. We will certianly keep you and yours in our prayers. I so much enjoyed working with him, it just won't be the same. Although retired when he walked in things just seemed to go smoother. The City of Lincoln will not be the same without him. As will all of us.

We offer our deepest sympathy and wish we could be with you in your time of need.

Diane, I was following the reports on LeRoy and praying for him and you. I am indeed sorry for the news of his passing. I praise the Lord for His promise, that, though we cannot bring him back, we can go to be with him in eternity. You will be in my prayers as the Lord reminds me in the next months. I am reminded of Philippians 1:6 that promises that, "He who has begun a good work in you, will perform it until the coming of Jesus Christ." Yours, Orlan
