Nancy Kopischke
March 16, 1934 - July 1, 2022
Nancy Kopischke, 88, of Lincoln, passed away July 1, 2022, after a short battle with cancer. Nancy Lucile Applegate was born March 16, 1934, to Red and Lucile Applegate in Torrington, WY. After high school, she attended Loretto Heights Women's College in Denver and later transferred to the University of Wyoming, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Soon after, she began her teaching career in Cheyenne.
On a whim, seeking adventure, Nancy applied for a teaching position abroad and moved to Wheelus Air Force Base in Tripoli, Libya. At Wheelus, she met and married John Kopischke. They moved from Libya to Chateauroux, France, and later to New Market, England, before returning to the U.S. in 1963. Before moving to Lincoln in 1976, they lived in Scottsbluff, NE, and Madison, WI.
Nancy is survived by her children, Ann (Victor Chen), Carl, Kate (Ralph Becker), Paul (Carrie Kline); David (Amanda Bissessar); five grandchildren, including Vienna Kopischke of Lincoln; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John (1928-2020), son Timothy John, granddaughter Brynn Slyter, sister Kathy Johnson and brother Jim Applegate.
A rosary will be held Thursday, July 7, at 7:30 pm at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1720 Lake St. A funeral mass is scheduled for Friday, July 8, at 10 am, also at Blessed Sacrament. In Lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Blessed Sacrament Community of Hope Campaign. Condolences may be shared online at www.bmlfh.com.

I knew all was right with my world when I looked out the window and saw Nancy walking to mass...like clockwork. She and John gave me so much peace during my years in Lincoln. I remember calling John years after I moved to tell him about a particularly beautiful bed of irises. They will never be forgotten

My years in Lincoln are filled with wonderful memories....many of them include Nancy and John. Anytime I see particularly beautiful gardens, or a really persistent squirrel....or have that first sip of a gin and tonic....I'm back on the deck with them. It was an honor.

We will sincerely miss the Lincoln, N. portion of the (now) very-scattered Kopischke Klan!!

When the Kopischkes moved into the neighborhood, the were the newcomers but they fit in right away - lots of kids. Nancy was always around and very tolerant of us kids - and our sometimes craziness. A very decent and mellow lady.

So sorry about Nancy´s passing. She was a great lady, mom, grandma, and neighbor. I know my mom cherished your parents and Sewell street won´t be the same without them!
