Richard Stitcher Obituary

Richard Joseph Stitcher

February 6, 1956 - January 31, 2025

Richard (Rick) Stitcher MD, 68, died after courageously battling glioblastoma with faith and grace. He is survived by the love of his life, Patricia (Patty), and his sons of whom he was so proud: Michael (wife Andrea Eggert, beloved grandchildren Liam and Alexandra), and Peter (wife Sarah Margaret Wade, beloved grandchildren Aiden, Emily, and Brooks). He is loved and missed by his siblings Teresa Fritz (Mike), Lisa Hughes (Warren), and Kathy Proctor (Jeff). He was preceded in death by Joseph and Zamova Stitcher.

Raised in Lincoln, a graduate of East High School, and the University of Nebraska Medical School, Rick loved practicing gastroenterology in Lincoln and surrounding towns. Yet his greater love was to serve people around the world. At the age of 38, Rick's life was radically transformed by the sacrificial love of Christ. It was Rick's response to this unconditional love that compelled him to serve the underserved in Mexico, Ecuador, Washington, Idaho, Afghanistan, The Republic of Congo, and Bangladesh.

Rick invested his life in people and the values he believed in. Although we and Rick's global family deeply grieve our loss, Rick has left a legacy of love, deep faith and generosity.

Dr. Stitcher was the one who identified my illness as Pseudo Obstruction, and put me on the only medication that helped me. I will forever be in his debt. And I grieve on the loss, not only of a former doctor, but a brother in Christ.

To Teresa and your siblings, please know I am thinking of you all and of Patti and the boys. A remarkable life, filled with family and service (even if shortened by health). I attend Mass daily in retirement, and will remember Rick and your parents and family in prayer. Sending love, Tim Stivrins

Our dear Patti, we are saddened to read this morning of the passing of Rick. I am sorry we had lost contact with you. You were dear friends when you lived here, and we loved being with you with various medical functions. I am sure you have been on a very difficult journey, but trust the Lord has been your mainstay. You are so loved. We will keep you in our prayers during this difficult time. Dale and Roylene
