Wayne Stephens Obituary
July 13, 1930 - January 14, 2025
Captain Wayne L. Stephens, 94, (US Navy Retired), died Tuesday January 14, 2025 at Eastmont Retirement Community, Lincoln Neb., surrounded by family.
Following a 27-year career in service to his country, Wayne worked for Duncan Aviation and Design Data. He was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and choir, Lincoln Winetasters, and an active member of the Eastmont community.
Wayne is survived by his children, Mary (Duane) Bill, Anne (Bruce) McClatchey, Matthew (Connie) Stephens, Andrew Stephens, Ruth (Jim) O'Gara, Martha Bruckner (fiancé, Peter Kobs), Elizabeth (Steve) Jaros, Luke (Suzanne) Stephens, Bartholomew (Tina Sposato) Stephens; his 36 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren; his brother, Kenneth Stephens and many nieces and nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Sally E. Stephens; son Joseph Stephens; grandson Aaron Stephens, granddaughter Anna Jaros; son-in-law Paul Bruckner; father Elmer Henry Stephens; mother Viola Joy Stephens; brother Robert E. Stephens; sister-in-law Bonnie Stephens; and nephew Robert Stephens.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 7900 Trendwood Dr., Lincoln, Neb., Rev. Michael McCabe will celebrate. A Rosary will be said at 10 a.m., prior to Mass and a reception will be held after Mass. A Private Inurnment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Catholic Social Services, the Pink Sisters or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
