Antoinette J. Mangold

ST. JOHN, IN - Antoinette J. Mangold, 88, of St. John, Indiana, formerly of Burlington, passed away peacefully in Munster, IN on Saturday, February 28, 2015. Born in Rock Island, IL on December 3, 1926, she was the daughter of Herman and Elizabeth (nee Boden) Bredar. She spent her early life in Rock Island where she graduated from St. Joseph High School. On April 3, 1948, she was united in marriage to Dr. Anthony J. Mangold. Following marriage they made their home in Park Ridge, IL and Fort Lauderdale, FL before settling in St. John, IN. Anthony preceded her in death on September 3, 2011. Antoinette worked as a nurse and as a member of the United States Cadet Nursing Corps she received her Registered Nursing Degree from St. Anthony’s Hospital School of Nursing in Rock Island, IL. After working in several nursing positions she became the head nurse of the Newborn Nursery at Resurrection Hospital in Chicago. She loved swimming, painting, playing piano, knitting and being with her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Mark Mangold of Omaha, NB and Valerie (Rick) Solan of St. John, IN; grandchildren, Shane Mangold and Jonathan, Teryn and Lindsey Solan. She is further survived by her siblings, Mauritia Theus and Herman (Norma) Bredar Jr.; sister-in-law, Irene Mangold along with many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a grandson, Colin Mangold; brothers, Bernard (Emily) Bredar, Vincent (Theresa) Bredar, Robert Bredar; sisters, Charlotte (Nick) Welch, Mary Agnes (Walt) O’Malley; in-laws, Harry Theus, Bill Mangold, Etta (Al) VandeSand, Ramona (Elmer) Koldeway and Margaret Mangold. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association of your choice. The family would like to thank Eileen and John Brown for their care and compassion to the family. Services for Antoinette will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 1130 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church with Rev. Yamid Blanco presiding. Visitation will be at the church on Friday, March 13th from 1030 a.m. until 1115 a.m. Burial will be at So.
