Joseph Scherrer Obituary

MILWAUKEE - Joseph M. Scherrer, 62, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2010, at Clement J Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee. He was born July 14, 1947 in Burlington to the late Elmer and Agnes (nee: Elverman) Scherrer. Joseph spent his early life in New Munster, attending St. Alphonsus Grade School and St. Francis De Sales Seminary, Milwaukee. Joseph graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Madison with a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture. Joseph proudly served in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War, 1966 until 1968. On September 2, 1971 in Madison, Joseph was united in marriage to Janice Matera. He worked in maintenance for 13 years at the Clement J Zablocki VA Medical Center, where he had many friends. Prior to working at the Medical Center, Joseph had been employed by Scherrer - Strohm Construction. Joseph is survived by siblings, Elmer (Barbara) Scherrer, Norman (Joy) Scherrer, Joan (Richard) Strohm, Barbara Scherrer , Marlene Scherrer all of Burlington, Edward Scherrer of Eau Claire, Carolyn (James) Bauman of Burlington, Kathryn Bryant of Kenosha and Patrick (Elena) Scherrer of Burlington. Joseph is further survived by nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Charlotte; and a brother, Thomas. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 15, 2010 at 6 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with Rev. Mike Erwin officiating. Private burial will take place at So. Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. Relatives and friends may visit with the family at St. Alphonsus Church on Monday, from 4 until 5:45 p.m.. Memorials to the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #20, Waterford, made attention to the Joseph M. Scherrer Memorial have been suggested.
