Lloyd Ostergaard Obituary
WINTER HAVEN, FLA. - Mr. Lloyd Martin Ostergaard, 83, entered his Eternal Home on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at the Good Shepherd Hospice Home in Auburndale, Fla. with family members at his bedside. Lloyd was born in Racine on September 2, 1925, son of Nels Aage and Luella (nee: Jensen) Ostergaard. On July 5, 1945, he married his first wife, Audrey Moungey in South Haven, Mich. From this union, three children were born, Todd, Robert, and Scott. He graduated from Washington Park High School, enlisted in the Army Reserve Corps in 1943, and attended basic training at Fort Benning, Ga. He was a Sergeant, assigned to Company L, 341st Infantry Regiment, 86th Infantry (Black Hawk) Division, and earned his Combat Infantryman's Badge in Central Europe. Other awards included the Army Commendation, Asia Pacific Theatre, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Service, and Good Conduct Medals. In Europe, he took part in the cordon that enabled the capture of the largest enemy surrender in World War II history. He was assigned to the Pacific Theatre shortly before the war's end, and was Honorably Discharged as a Non-commissioned Officer in April of 1946. His occupations included Plant Manager at Progressive Dairy, a member of the Carpenter's Union working at Veenstra's "Big Buck" Lumber Company, and Millrite at Hubbard Johnson Lumber Company in Freemont, Calif. He was married to Jean Molbeck in California, who passed away in 1983. Following retirement, he moved to Horta Faial, Azores, Portugal, where again, he used his own ingenuity and carpenter skills in building a home. Acclimated to warm climates, Lloyd spent the last 10 years residing at Swiss Golf and Tennis Club in Winter Haven, Fla. He enjoyed reading, golf, bicycling, competitive games of schafkopf and dominoes, and always had a crossword puzzle in progress. He will be sadly missed. Lloyd was an active member of the Lake Lucerne Baptist Church in Winter Haven, Fla., where his Memorial service was conducted by Rev. Gerald Niles on Sunday, May 24, 2009. Survivors include his sons, Robert and Scott; one grandson, Matthew (Maribel) of Honolulu, Hawaii; grandchildren, Matthew Jr. and Anhelica; brothers, Harley (Sally) of Tucson, Ariz. and David (Evadine) of Racine; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
