RACINE - Mimi Kathleen (nee: Smith) Nichols 'Our Beloved Kathy', 63, entered eternal life after a five-year battle with cancer on Monday, October 3, 2005. Kathy was a 1960 graduate of William Horlick High School and a member of Racine Christian Reformed Church. Kathy was a member of the Red Hat Society and loved scrap booking and traveling; but most of all, she loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Survivors include her husband, Harvey Nichols; children, Gregory (Jill) Nichols, Steven (Suzanne) Nichols, David (Cara) Nichols, all of Racine, and Gary Nichols of Columbus; grandchildren, Marguerite, Benjamin, Natalie, Audrey, Emily, Daniel, Nora, Bethany, and Anthony Lemens-Marshall; sister and brothers, Mary Ann (Bob) Foreman, James (Joyce) Smith, and Gary (Ruth) Smith; sister-in-law, Ernestine Smith; aunt, Camilla Jones; uncle, Rueben (Winifred) Smith; and lifelong friend, Judie Houdek. Kathy is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Sharon; brother, Donald Smith; and sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Bob Friesema. Funeral services for Kathy will be held at Racine Christian Reformed Church, 900 Illinois Street, on Saturday, October 8, 2005, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Glenn Gerdes officiating. Interment will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Racine Christian School. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Michael Mullane and his staff for all of the kind treatment, care, and compassion shown to Kathy and our family. I so loved my dear Great Aunt Kathy. She was a marvelous person who always had a smile and a funny story or antic to share. She comforted me often and reassured me even more often in my early twenties when I was so unsure of so many things. She had an unmeasurable love for so many. She was kind and patient. She served as a surogate mom to me while I was stationed so far away from my family. I loved spending time with her more than anything. I know I will see her again in Heaven and only regret that I lived so far away that my children won't know her until then.

I've only known Kathy a short period of time through the Bell City Belle Red Hat Society Chapter. It was always a treat to see her, with her pretty smile, thoughtfulness, and great attitude. We'll miss her.

I will always remember Kathy as smiling. She was a beautiful lady and had a wonderful smile and a great sense of humor.

Kathy was a great imspritation to every one that met her. I am only sorry that it wasn't a lifetime. When she joined our chapter of the Belle City Bellas, we knew we were in for a ride. She was always ready for anything, any advanture. She said that each day was a blessing. When I visited her in the hospital it was Kathy that cheered me up. For her family you were blessed to have had her. For our chapter, we were blessed to have known her. We will miss her.
