Paul Machmeier Obituary

Paul Machmeier

May 23, 1937 - December 18, 2024

The patriarch of our family, Paul Machmeier, died at home on December 18, 2024 at the age of 87. Paul Martin Machmeier was born in Milwaukee on May 23, 1937 to Martin and Ethel Machmeier.

Paul graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran High School in 1955, and then attended the University of Missouri – Rolla where he earned an engineering degree. He went on to earn a PHD in Metallurgical Engineering from Lehigh University. Paul developed and patented AF1410, a high-alloy, low-carbon steel known for its high strength, toughness, and stress corrosion resistance used in aerospace applications while working at General Dynamics/Fort Worth Division. Paul went on to work at Snap-On Tools in Kenosha where he was the Manager of Materials and Process Engineering.

Paul was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. Paul was passionate about water skiing, tennis, and shooting trap, but his real love was hunting. He hunted all over the world with family members and friends in Australia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania.

Paul attended Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as an elder for many years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Ethel Machmeier; and his sister, Lois Franke (Machmeier). Paul is survived by his wife, Catherine Patricia Machmeier; his son, Clay Machmeier; daughter in-law, Chassidy Machmeier; step-son, Eric Bushnell; daughter in-law, Carsha Bushnell; nephew, Kurt Franke; niece, Karen Franke; and grandkids: Aliya and Mia Machmeier and newly arrived grandson, Jordan Bushnell. He will be truly missed!

A funeral service for Paul will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Purath-Strand Funeral Home. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield.

My deepest condolences on Paul's passing. I only heard yesterday afternoon. I played tennis with Paul in the Monday morning league for many years. Since I moved to IL 6 years ago, I've lost contact with some of my friends.
