Butch was a childhood friend of mine. Both of us grew up near the old Summit School on the corner of Hwy. 67 and B. We attended that school and were in the same grade. We often played baseball at recess, and he was the best hitter and probably the best runner and fielder, too. I was always a step behind him, but we were friends, so I didn't mind. We lost track of each other and didn't reconnect until a couple of years ago, when we promised to get together and share a beer or two. Unfortunately, that never happened. I guess the lesson here is to not put off any chance you might have to reconnect with a friend, because we never know how much time we have. I will miss my old friend; he was a genuinely nice guy. God rest his soul.
