Just the other day I came across some old records and one of them was Barbara's Funeral. Miss her for we became very good friends. I know she is safely home.

I received a call from Father Vince a few months after my Husbands death, asking me if I would give a few hours to help our Nurse. Of course I said yes and it started a journey with Barbara, becoming good friends, we worked together for 9 years. She helped so many of our Parishioners we would visit them ( I just was her go-for) we would come back to the office and she would start calling people that had the products that the Elderly needed in their homes. I have missed her in my life. I know she is with the Lord. JEAN M. MORGAN

Dear Keyes Family, You all have been the most amazing caregivers for your mom these last five months and made this time truly a blessing for her and many others. I wish I could have been there for the funeral which surely was a beautiful and spirit filled tribute to your beautiful and spirit filled mom. She was an exceptional woman in every way...the spirit of Jesus, with a twinkle in her eye and her feet firmly on the ground. I loved her feistiness, even when she occasionally told me what I needed to hear, and especially loved her sense or humor! She lead by example and we were glad to follow. It was only after her death that I learned the extent of her professional life. Barbara and I became instant friends in February 2013. Our souls must have known our time together on earth was short (way too short!!) and to make the most of it! I loved her for the one of a kind person and friend she was and hope to retain some of who I was when we were together. I look forward to seeing you in Florida. Until then, please keep in touch and let me know when there is anything I can do for you. Maureen, I'm still working on my homework. Love and prayers, Sandy

I worked for Mrs. Keyes back in 1986 and 87 as college student doing data entry work at ADRDA at Family Hospital. She set a great example of someone working because it was her passion to help others. I offer my sympathies to all of her family and friends. God Bless.

Barbara Keyes was a godsend to our family when my father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in the early 1980s. His own doctor dismissed him as a patient because of it, and we had nowhere to turn. My Aunt Virginia had gone to Sacred Heart Nursing School with Barbara and steered us towards her. Now that my mother-in-law has Alzheimer's, Barbara's legacy is helping our family once again. Thank you, Mrs. Keyes, for your tireless efforts to help others understand and cope with the difficult diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease and for erasing the stigma associated with it. The world is a much better place because of the blessing of you.

The seemingly endless love that Barbara has shown our family, over her years in Venice, is clearly the same love she shared with so many others.

It was clear that her devotion to others in need came from a desire to serve. She used her faith and her many gifts ...wisdom, compassion, and understanding among them, to make the world a better place.

On behalf of my mother, I wish to express how fortunate we both were to have been a part of her remarkable life.

To her family, I wish to express our condolences, and also to share my belief that the selfless way she lived her life will always serve as an example for the many whose lives she touched.

June 28, 2014

I send my condolences to all of Barbara's Family. I cannot write enough of how I witnessed the love and care you gave to your Mother. I know she is in Heaven with the Lord. She was a wonderful person. I worked along with her for over 9 years as her helper. I witnessed all the devotion and help she had for the Elderly. I will miss her terribly but know she is safely home. Jean Morgan

I deeply regret that physical ailments prevent my participation in the services for Barbara Keyes. I had
the good fortune to serve on her public information
committee and board. I quickly learned that she was
a caring gentle woman and a highly effective dedicated leader for the Alzheimers Association. She cared deeply about the association's mission in
helping so many affected by this terrible illness. During that time she became a close friend and confidante and we discussed many professional and
personal matters over over coffee or quiet lunches.
I will forever be grateful that our lives touched so
often and will always remember her sage counsel
and loyal friendship, During our public information work together we came across a card that we used
in our communications for the association. She had
it done in calligraphy and framed for me. It reads
"God gave us memories so that we might have roses
in December." It occupies a prominent place in my
home as a treasured memory and possession. I am
proud and honored to have enjoyed her friendship and professionalism for so many years. My deep
sympathy to her family and her many friends.

Dear Keyes cousins--May the kindness and strength your mom, and our aunt, gave to so many over the years give all of us courage to continue doing good things for others. Although, we are not able be there with all of you to celebrate your mom and all of her accomplishments, we have kept her, and all of you in our thoughts and prayers over the past few months. Please take care. Peace and hugs to each of you. Love, cousin Sue & Tom & family of Washington & Maryland.

She will always be remembered at Our Lady of Lourdes. We will offer a Memorial Mass for Barbara at our parish at 10:00 am, Thursday,July 24,2014.

We are saddened by the passing of your dear Mother. Although we only knew her for two short years, she became a very close and dear friend to “Uncle” Jerry, Chris and me (Dale). She was a beautiful woman, with heart of a saint. She loved and cherished all of her children, and grandchildren and you could hear the love in her voice as spoke of her entire family. She missed “Bill” and now their souls have been reunited, and I can picture them playing dominoes as classic music plays in the background.
Our deepest sympathy on your loss, but we are joyful for her arrival in heaven.

Dear children of Barbara,
A few of you may remember meeting me when I worked with your mom and WAITC. She taught me so much about so much: Alzheimer's disease, people who knew about AD, how to lead, how to budget, etc. She was another mom to me, maybe a big sister...I cherished our relationship over many years.
She loved you all so much, talked about you all the time. I know she felt blessed to be the mom of every one of you.
May she rest in peace with a life so very, very well lived. A wonderful woman and a blessing to us all.
Peace be with you.

Barbara Keyes was a saint walking among us.. I have never known another person quite like her. She was brilliant, warm, loving, and so incredibly wise. Her friendship and that of her family is something I hold very dear to me. Her work changed the world;she brought compassion to those affected by Alzheimer's. Her legacy of Love, Tenderness, Charity and Mercy to those in need lives on by her beautiful family. She will always remain a strong influence and inspiration to me.

My friendship with your dear mother was brief but made an everlasting impression. Her kindness and concern for the elderly who had no one else to look out for them was a true lesson in charity. She was never too busy to listen to them when they called the church office and went to great lengths to find the help they needed. She was a Christian in the truest sense of the word.
My deepest sympathy to all of the Keyes family on the loss of such a marvelous woman. Her legacy will live on in each of you.

I first met Barbara 11 years ago when we moved to La Casa in North Port, FL.
She and Bill were our neighbors and lived two doors down.
Our relationship changed after her surgery, when I spent time with her at the hospital and at her home.
It's so hard to explain, but it seems that our spirits recognized one another immediately
and we became close friends, catching up on all the years we had missed.
One day I drove her to the hospital for a treatment to give her daughter a break.
When we arrived in the treatment room the nurse asked if I was one of her daughters, we looked at each other and Barbara responded with “adopted”, and we both smiled. And that is
how it felt to both of us. We were so comfortable together and I loved her.
When Barbara returned to WI, we kept in touch through texts and email messages and at the end, through her family. Sometimes I would get a text from Barbara late at night and she would end with “sweet dreams” which made me smile and feel tucked in. I felt so close to God just knowing her, and I realized reading the Caringbridge notes that she had touched so many others in the same way. I will miss her smile, her wisdom and sharing thoughts on our faith, but I will always hold her love in my heart. As Barbara said to me, when I asked why God waited so long to bring us together, “It is better to have loved and lost than not to have loved at all”. And she was right! I thank God for the gift of her friendship and love, which brought great joy and peace to my heart. xoxo Kathie
