Joanie, Joey, & Jonathan, I am SO sorry to have just learned about this. I just want to bake you cookies and wrap my arms around you. Working as "Bon Bon's" maid for those few weeks of madness that fall way back when, was one of the strangest and most cherished experiences of my life, although Joey and Jonathan, when you were 15 & 17 cleaning your rooms was a rough gig. I told Bon Bon why I left abruptly while you were on vacation in Jamaica, but I never told you guys. I left because i fell in love with your family, and if i hadn't left, then, I might have never left and life had other rivers for me to cross. I loved Bon Bon so much. When they fashioned the term strong, independent lady, Bon Bon (aka Barbara) was who they were talking about. Joey has my number, 24/7/365

As the Cantor at Temple Beth El of Hollywood, I got to know Barbara during her winters in Florida. What a wonderful, warm lady! Always with a smile and nice word to say.
I always enjoyed seeing her and had a memorable "welcome back" conversation just days 4 days before she passed on.
I will never forget her!
May her memory be a blessing.

I remember your Mom from our involvement in Civil Rights issues in Milwaukee during the 60's. She recruited me to work with her on the summer program she and others at the temple started to bring in children from the city who were affected by the rioting to have a safe and fun summer. We also worked together on programs at Henry Clay where our children both attended. I wiil always remember her kindness and generousity to those in need and her enormous capacity for doing good as well as her great zest for life. I thought of her often after we moved from Whitrfish Bay. May you take comfort in the many great memories of her thatI know you all have. (Beth, Brad & Allison's Mom)

CONDOLENCES TO THE SURVIVING FAMILY MEMBERS OF BARBARA SHIKORA. I KNEW BOTH BARBARA & MEL FROM MY ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT AT THE OLD JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER ON N. PROSPECT AVE., MY INVOLVEMENT IN THE BROADCAST COMMUNITY (WITI-TV, WMVS-TV, WMIL RADIO)& AS A VOCALIST / ENTERTAINER& AND AS A PROUD FORMER 18+ YEAR VETERAN MILWAUKEE POLICE OFFICER, OF THE JEWISH FAITH / STRICTLY SOCIALLY AND NOT PROFESSIONALLY.

I WAS ALWAYS DRAWN TO MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT, OF WHICH BOTH BARBARA & MEL, WERE VERY INVOLVED AND I SANG WITH THE QUARTET THAT ENTERTAINED MANY OF THE ARMED SERVICE PERSONNEL IN THE SAMPSON AUDITORIUM, AND BOTH PAUL CHASE & I, ENTERTAINED THE TEENAGERS WITH RECORD HOPS, FOR THEIR BAR & BAT MITZVAH'S AT THE JCC OR AT PRIVATE VENUES AROUND MILWAUKEE COUNTY.

IN 1978, AFTER VISITING LOS ANGELES AND AN EXTREMELY SEVERE WINTER IN MILWAUKEE, I SAW A BETTER WAY TO "WINTER" AND I WOULD EVENTUALLY RESIGN IN 1980 AND RETURN TO MY BROADCASTING CAREER, BUT IN LOS ANGELES.

BOTH BARBARA AND MEL, WERE ALWAYS SOCIALLY ENGAGING, AND FUN TO BE IN THEIR COMPANY. AS SOON, AS I SAW HER NAME THIS MORNING, ON-LINE, READING THE JOURNAL-SENTINEL DEATH NOTICES, I WAS ABLE TO VISUALIZE HER FROM MANY YEARS AGO.

RETIRED BROADCAST ENGINEER, THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK, WEST COAST HEADQUARTERS, LOS ANGELES / HOLLYWOOD, 1982-2005.
