Bryan Gapson Obituary

Gapson, DDS, Bryan Bryan Gapson, DDS, also known as "Doc", found peace on October 3, 2018, at the age of 61 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. Preceded in death by his father, George. Beloved husband of Dawn (nee Pluta) for 34 years. Proud father of Karly, Kyle and Kurtis. Loving grandfather of Christian and Mason. Also survived by mother, Ruth, sister, Susan (Alfred) Greco, and many loved ones. Born April 3, 1957 in Milwaukee, WI, he was the youngest child and only son of George and Ruth Gapson. Bryan grew up in Greendale, WI, where he met his high school sweetheart, Dawn. He went on to receive his undergraduate degree from Marquette University and graduated from Marquette Dental School in 1985. Bryan and Dawn married in 1984 and they raised their three children in Ottawa, WI. Bryan was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed his summers on Lake Michigan and at McKinley Marina where he docked his boat. "Doc" thoroughly enjoyed entertaining family and friends all summer. Bryan's curiosity and ambition led him to take on projects of all types; everything from renovating their family home to customizing and rebuilding his boat to doing dental work. He truly was a man of many talents and took pride in everything he did. He loved attending football games at Camp Randall and Lambeau Field, or catching them on TV in the company of family and friends. Bryan always lent a helping hand to everyone, and enjoyed life to the fullest. Bryan's positive attitude and cheerful whistle will be missed by his many family and friends. Dr. Bryan Gapson was an exemplary member of the dental community. In addition to graduating from Marquette University, Bryan also later returned to Marquette where he served as part-time faculty for 18 years teaching preclinical fixed prosthodontics. Dr. Gapson worked tirelessly to provide excellent and compassionate dental care to his patients at Riverwalk Dentistry. He volunteered his time every year to provide care to those in the Donated Dental Services Program since its inception in 1998. He was a mentor to multiple dental students through the mentorship program at Marquette. Bryan loved his career and also loved to share his knowledge. One of his great passions was working in the lab, behind the scenes, helping to create beautiful dental work from start to finish. He was a member of the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon and Alpha Sigma Nu, a professional honor society and a Jesuit honor society, respectively. Dr. Gapson was involved in organized dentistry from the time he graduated, and was a member of the American Dental Association, the Wisconsin Dental Association, and was past President of the Greater Milwaukee Dental Association. He served many years as a delegate at the WDA House of Delegates, and was on the ADA Council on Dental Education and Licensure's committee on continuing education provider recognition. Dr. Gapson was a member of the American College of Dentists and The Dental Forum, which is the oldest dental study club in the United States. Dr. Gapson loved being a dentist and serving the community and his patients. He enjoyed all the relationships that ensued over the course of his 33 years in the profession. He will be missed by many. We would like to thank Dr. Rodrigues and his staff at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic in Summit and Aurora's Metro Milwaukee Hospice team for their compassionate care. Visitation Wednesday, October 10 from 4-6pm at St. Paul Catholic Church, S38W31602 Wern Way Waukesha, WI 53189. Mass to follow at 6pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bryan's name may be made to the Cancer Research Institute or the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer.

I will always remember Mr. Gapson's bright smile and uplifting sense of humor. Having grown up in Ottawa at the same age as Kurtis, I will never forget the countless times that I went to their gorgeous home, as I would sometimes be invited for pool days and dinners, and to also make some of the best childhood memories which will forever remain with me. My deepest sympathies go out to Kurtis, Mrs. Gapson, Kyle, Carly, and their entire family. Sending positive thoughts and prayers from Wyoming.

I went to high school with Bryan and Dawn, and we were neighbors for awhile while they lived in New Berlin. Dr. Gapson then became our dentist, and remained so for the next 25 years. He was always a joy to see - he created a wonderful, caring dental practice that will live on. My heart goes out to Dawn and their children and grandchildren. He will be so missed by all who were lucky to know him. Much love and peace.
