What a honor it was to work with Carl at TV6 in the early 70's. I was but a lowly engineer but Carl always valued people around him. I have fond memories of sitting at the kitchen set chatting over a cup of coffee. My sincere sympathies to the Zimmerman family.

IN AN EFFORT TO BETTER EXPLAIN THE GROUP PICTURE, SUBMITTED AND ATTRIBUTED TO ME, DONALD H. PINSKER, A FORMER STAFF EMPLOYEE, DURING THE EARLY YEARS, (1960'S) AND MY ADULT LIFE EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCES HAVING BEEN INFLUENCED BY CARL ZIMMERMANN, AND DUE TO THE INABILITY TO ENLARGE THAT GROUP PHOTO, IN AN EFFORT TO HIGH-LIGHT CARL ZIMMERMANN, AS HE WAS SOMEWHAT BLOCKED BY THE ACCORDION PLAYER.
IN APRIL 1960, WITI-TV, CHANNEL 6, THEN OWNED BY THE STORER BROADCASTING COMPANY, THAT OWNED BROADCAST FACILITIES, IN SEVERAL LARGE MARKETS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, HOSTED A PARTY FOR THE STAFF OF WITI-TV. THIS PARTY WAS THEMED "APRIL IN PARIS" AND HELD AT THE BLACK STEER SUPPER CLUB IN APRIL 1960.
THE HERBIE STARK QUARTET WAS HIRED TO PROVIDE THE DANCE MUSIC. DURING A BREAK FOR THE HERBIE STARK MUSICIANS, THEIR INSTRUMENTS WERE "HIGH-JACKED" BY WITI-TV STAFFERS, SHOWN IN THAT GROUP PICTURE, FROM LEFT TO RIGHT, ARE DON PINSKER, A STUDIO PRODUCTION ASSOCIATE, PLAYING THE TROMBONE; GLENN BOUNDY JR., CHANNEL 6 OPERATIONS MANAGER, PLAYING THE DRUMS; CARL ZIMMERMANN, NEWS DIRECTOR / NEWS ANCHOR, PLAYING THE (UP-RIGHT)STRING BASS (BLOCKED BY THE PERSON PLAYING THE ACCORDION, KEN BEHAN, TV STUDIO, CONTROL ROOM DIRECTOR.
JOE EVANS, WITI-TV CHANNEL 6, STATION MANAGER, WAS THE STATION CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER DURING THAT PERIOD OF TIME.
I HOPE THIS EXPLANATION BETTER EXPLAINS CARL JOINING IN AND PLAYING THAT STRING BASS, WHICH WAS SOMEWHAT BLOCKED.

I met Carl at Sam's Club in the checkout line. We had a nice chat over a jar of herring bought for my sister. Great memories.

My condolences to the Zimmermann family.
I remember in the mid-60's my mother brushing my hair getting me ready to go to kindergarten (or first grade) and we would be watching Carl Zimmermann on TV in black and white. From that point on, his voice always brought back that memory for me and a sense of safety and happiness.
Thank you to all the wonderful years he has given Milwaukee and may he rest in peace.

Carl (and Doree) were close friends of my parents, Vern and Doris Hoefert, and our family over the years. We were so saddened to hear of Carl's passing. Carl was a good person of the highest character and integrity. I know I speak for my parents, who passed on a number of year ago, and my family when I say the world is a better place because of Carl Zimmerman.

My deepest sympathy to the Zimmermann family on Carl's passing. My parents, brothers and I were always huge fans of the newscasts on WITI-TV Channel 6, and Carl was a big part of the reason why. He always delivered the news and his editorials in an extremely professional manner, as well as with much warmth and compassion. Carl will truly be missed by all those whose lives he touched so deeply.

I don't think anybody will miss Carl more than the residents and staff at Milwaukee Catholic Home where Carol and Doree have been residents for the past seven years. Carl was bigger than life at the Catholic Home and kinder than kind. He was grateful for everything and let you know with his generous smile and words (he still had quite a way with words!). I don't think we ever had a performance of Patio Pops (our summer outdoor concert series) where Carl didn't seek me out afterwards to let me know how much they had enjoyed the music. He was a real "thumbs up" guy! He and Doree were very happy at Milwaukee Catholic Home and even cut a wonderful radio commercial for us in definite 'Carl style'. Dear Carl: we will continue to take great care of your beloved Doree for you and will keep you forever in our thoughs and prayers. With love,

MY SINCERE CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY OF CARL ZIMMERMANN, WHO I HAD THE EXTREME PLEASURE OF WORKING WITH DURING THE EARLY 60'S.
MY EMPLOYMENT "ADULT LIFE EXPERIENCES" HAD ME EMPLOYED BY WITI-TV, CHANNEL 6, DURING TWO PERIODS OF TIME, IN THE LATE 50'S, WHEN IT WAS LOCATED AT N. PORT WASHINGTON RD. & DONGES BAY RD., AS AN INDEPENDENT, NON NETWORK AFFILIATED STATION OWNED BY ATTORNEY SOL KAHN.
MY ADULT CAREER PATH, WAS ACTUALLY DECIDED, WHILE WALKING HOME FROM THE OLD NORTH DIVISION HIGH SCHOOL (1951-1955) AND WATCHING WTMJ-TV SET UP THEIR REMOTE TRUCK, PARKED IN THE TUNNEL OF THE RON DE VOO AUDITORIUM, AT N. 12TH AND W. NORTH AVE. FOR A LATER IN THE WEEK WRESTLING MATCHES REMOTE TELECAST. DURING THAT PERIOD OF TIME, IT TOOK SEVERAL DAYS TO INSTALL ALL OF THE TECHNICAL CABLING AND LARGE STUDIO TYPE CAMERAS, FOR THAT TYPE OF TELECAST. IT WAS OBSERVING THAT INSTALLATION, THAT DIRECTED MY STUDIES, POST HIGH SCHOOL, TO BECOME A STUDENT OF A COURSE CALLED TELECASTING, OFFERED BY THE FORMER VOCATIONAL SCHOOL, LATER TO BE NAMED THE MILWAUKEE INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, AND I RECEIVED PRACTICAL TRAINING BY BECOMING INVOLVED IN THE TRANSFORMATION OF A CLOSED CIRCUIT TRAINING FACILITY, INTO THE PUBLIC TELEVISION BROADCASTING FACILITY OF WMVS-TV, CHANNEL 10, AND LATER CHANNEL 36.
IN THE EARLY 60'S, I WAS AGAIN HIRED BY THE THEN, NEW WITI-TV, CHANNEL 6, OWNERSHIP, A STORER BROADCASTING COMPANY WITH A CBS NETWORK AFFILIATION, WHO TOOK OVER THE REAL ESTATE OF THE FORMER WXIX-TV, CHANNEL 19, WHEN THEY WENT OFF THE AIR, LEAVING A COMPLETE TWO STUDIO AND ELECTRONICS INSTALLATION BEHIND LOCATED AT 5445 N. 27TH ST.
I WOULD OPERATE THE REAR PROJECTION SYSTEM. DURING THE NEWSCASTS, IN WHICH CARL ANCHORED THE NEWS AND THE PERSON OR SITUATION, WOULD APPEAR OVER HIS SHOULDER.
IN BETWEEN NEWSCASTS AND WHEN TIME WAS AVAILABLE, I WOULD LISTEN TO THE POLICE RADIO IN THE NEWS ROOM, AND OBTAINED AN INTEREST, IN THAT CAREER PATH OF LIFE EXPERIENCES, EVENTUALLY JOINING THE MILWAUKEE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND COMBINING MY INTERESTS IN POLICE WORK AND TELEVISION PRODUCTION, BY DESIGNING AND CONSTRUCTING, A HIGH END INDUSTRIAL CLOSED CIRCUIT POLICE TELEVISION NETWORK, WITH STUDIOS AT THE THEN NEWLY PURCHASED POLICE ACADEMY, THE FORMER MADONNA HIGH SCHOOL, ON N. TEUTONIA AVE., SOUTH OF GOOD HOPE ROAD.
WHILE VISITING LOS ANGELES, ON VACATION, IN 1978, AND RETURNING TO MILWAUKEE TO AN EXTREMELY SEVERE WINTER OF 1978-79, I DECIDED TO INVESTIGATE, THE RETURN TO BROADCASTING, BUT BASED IN LOS ANGELES, AND NOT MILWAUKEE. HAVING THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF A WIFE AND CHILDREN, AND AT AGE 43, IN 1980, I MOVED TO LOS ANGELES.
THEREFORE, DURING MY CAREER PATH LIFE EXPERIENCES IN THE EARLY 60'S, AND WORKING WITH CARL, I WAS EXPOSED TO THOSE POLICE RADIO ASSIGNMENTS AND CROSSED OVER, SEVERAL VERY DIVERSE EMPLOYMENTS, HAVING SPENT OVER 30 YEARS IN BROADCASTING AND AN ADDITIONAL 18 YEARS AS A POLICE OFFICER, AND INFLUENCED BY MY SURROUNDINGS IN THE CHANNEL 6, WITI-TV NEWSROOM.

Great memories of growing up and listening to Carl deliver the news. We always knew we got the news delivered to the viewers in the most professional way. Carl set the bar high for the journalists to follow him. Carl was the best of the best! Deepest sympathy to Carl's family.
