Katie & Craig Jr.
I don't think you know me, but I had your Dad as a teacher, football coach and baseball coach at Rosemount High school in the early to mid 1980s. Your Dad was truly a great friend, teacher and coach to me while I was at Rosemount High School. I remember his great sense of humor and some of the innocent pranks he would pull, especially during the football season. I particularly remember when we had our film review nights for varsity football and how he would sneak a copy of the baseball commercial he made with the Twins when he played for them into the film projector. We all would be setting in the room waiting for the film review of the previous weeks varsity football game to begin, when all of a sudden up came a commercial for the "Minnesota Lumber Company" (Minnesota Twins) featuring Craig "Mongo" Kusick. It was always fun seeing that commercial. I was so sorry to hear of the passsing of both your mother and father. Though, I didn't know your mother as well as your father, I do remember meeting her on a number of occasions. She seemed like a very special person also. My sister who lives in Rochester, Minnesota sent me a newspaper article awhile back about the illnesses your parents were fighting. In that article it mentioned how your Dad was planning on cutting back his coaching duties before he became ill to help out your mother with her illness. That right there shows just what type of character your father had. I still have that article hanging up in my office and it gives me inspiration from time to time when I need it. I truly regret that I didn't take the time to contact your father personally before his passing to wish him my best and tell him how much inspiration he was giving others. He was a person that I admired and looked up to while I was growing up in Rosemeount. I am sure that I am only one of the many former students and players of his that feel our world has lost a great person. I would also like to personally thank you (Katie and Craig Jr.) for sharing your father and mother with the rest of us former students and athletes. I will always remember your father as a great inspiration.

Craig and Katie: Chrissy and I are so saddened by the loss of such a wonderful human being. Your father was one of my favorite teammates of all time. He was an inspiration on and off the field and, as you well know, one of the world's great people. The quality of person that he was was matched only by your wonderful mom. You have had so much more to deal with in such a short time than any two kids should ever have to. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

To Katie and Craig Jr.:
My deepest sympathy on the loss of your father. I will miss him on the field when he coached Rosemount Sophomore Football as well as my occasional visits to
his residence before my games. He was a great man and coach and now he will not have to suffer anymore.
I apologize for not making it to the visitation and/or service and hope that the flowers arrived.

Craig and Katie,
Know that I am thinking of you both at this time. Your father was a wonderful teacher, coach, husband and dad...Just look at how great you two turned out. There are so many wonderful memories for the two of you to share alone or with others.
One of my favorite memories was seeing him in your family room relaxing with your mom, they just loved being together.
Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

We were so saddened to hear about the loss of your dad. You and your kids are a great legacy to your parens. It was wonderful that your dad was around to see the birth of his three grandchildren. I will never forget how scared Pat (Katie's husband) was of telling your dad that he crashed his car while at UWEC. He was a great man and we are glad we were able to meet him.

The thing I will remenber most is his touchdown pass for La Crosse on espn2. His dad and mom, his sister, and two brothers,
and the house he grew up in. Plus his visit to my parent's tavern after a game in Milwaukee.

Mr. Kusick's sense of humor provided the perfect opportunity for my daughter in his phy ed class. She thrived on the banter with "Mr. Big Guy" as she affectionately referred to him as - although I don't think he knew that. At conferences he was serious and professional and concerned that the banter was too much for her. We laughed and assured him he was wonderful with her!
It's so hard to lose a parent and even more so to lose two this close. May you find comfort in knowing they are together again and their suffering is over. God bless you.

Mr. Kusick ~~
You were a great teacher, a great coach, a great baseball player, and most importantly--a great person. You will be missed by all. I still have the baseball book where you hold records and have your baseball cards. God Bless You and Your Family.
