Donald Kubenik Obituary

Kubenik, Donald William "Donnie" laid his head for his final nap on the evening of Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the age of 75. He passed peacefully surrounded by his entire family. Loving husband of Darlene (nee Tobiasz) for 53 years. He was the devoted father of Carolyn (Scott) McComas, Dawn (Daniel) Alderton, and Paul (Sandra Garven) Kubenik. Grandfather of Kristin, Connor, Joseph, Claire, Mallory, and Trevor. Brother of Geraldine, Thomas, the late Lance, and Karen. Son of the late Frank and Helen Kubenik. Born February 4, 1940 in Milwaukee, WI, he attended South Division High School, graduating in 1959. His humble start began at the filling station, Shell, on 35th and Burnham. For pennies on the hour he patiently waited for the opportunity of an apprenticeship, which later drove his success as the CEO of two of his own sheet metal and contracting companies, Du-Mont and H. Kubenik Mechanical Inc. His passion for cars was known around the city, as his collection was always on display within the streets. He is the proud builder of multiple establishments throughout Milwaukee, while putting his love into the personal building of homes for all of his children. You could find him at his drawing board on Sunday afternoons, sketching his next dream. His lawn never had a blade out of place, yet a car never left the garage without a wax. His afternoon naps were filled with sounds of the Brewer games or Packers in the background. Sunday morning jelly doughnuts and ham and rolls for the entire family were an essential. He worked for his family, he lived for his family, a proud father and Grampy. He was at every game, and graduation. He took on every rebound or pitch, rain, snow, or shine. He will forever be the husband, son, father, and Grampy. His passion and drive lives on within his entire family, living to make him proud. If there were more powerful words than "I love you," we would say it, but we love you with all of our hearts and souls. Love you!! We would personally like to thank each and every one of the nurses and caregivers from Hometown Hospice & Homecare for all of the loving care you put forward in the final days. You truly became a part of our family, and we can never thank you enough. Visitation at the Funeral Home, Wednesday, August 5, at 3-6:45PM. Funeral Service at 7PM. Private entombment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to Alzheimer's Association, Southeastern WI, 620 S. 76th St., #160, Milwaukee, WI 53214.

Jerry Sauer

August 6, 2015

My name is Jerry Sauer. Donnie and I were close friends during our High School days. Although I had no contact with him after graduation his cousin Richard Pearson and I are still close friends and through him I was able to learn of his many accomplishments. We also shared the friendship of mutual friends like Dennis Collins and Doug Heder now both deceased. Each morning during our High School days Donnie would walk to my house, He lived on 38th and Burnham and I lived on 35th and Mitchell. Together we would go to school in my 1949 Pontiac. He was a short skinny kid--a good friend. The passing of the friends that filled the days of ones youth should not be a surprise as the event is a companion of old age. Many of the non-violent "gang" that Donnie and I hung around with have left and though I still am blessed with good health and greet each day with gusto I feel like the bus came to the corner and everyone got on except me. I send my condolances to Donnie's family. The loss of a loved one is never easy to reconcile May the fond memories you hold dear remain bright for all of you. They are a blessing to you from God.

My deepest sympathy and love to you, Darlene and all of your children and grandchildren. I always loved Donnie's easy smile and laugh and the time he was always willing to share with me when I was in town. I wish I could be there with you to celebrate his wonderful life and his reward of eternity in Paradise. All my love and sympathy, Cousin Susan (Suzie Brazeau) Burmeister
