To Dr. B's family - I just became aware of his passing and wanted to reach out. Dr. B was my OB/GYN twice. Once in 1996 and he became my perinatologist in 2004 resulting in the birth of my 14 year old son. His expertise and commitment to women's health gave me confidence I was in good hands. He made having a healthy son possible after years of not risking medical odds. I still see his face the morning of my C-Section, eating an orange popsicle while "suited up" and ready to go! You are amongst the angels!

To Jill and family - We met many years ago. I was one of Frits many residents and he was a great mentor. Sorry for the late message as I just saw this. I am sad I was not able to see him one more time. Aloha to a passionate and wonderful man!

I helped Frits and Jill facilitate the mortgage loan when they purchased their home on Oakland Ave. in Whitefish Bay. I could tell immediately that they were both exceptional people and I've never forgotten this experience from many years ago now.
Frits was a remarkable world citizen and he made a real difference in many ways during his lifetime. His life truly mattered.

Nearly fifty years ago, a friend returned from her European vacation with interesting news. She had met a wonderful young medical student in Holland while touring the canals of Amsterdam. He was the tour boat guide. Her name was Jill and his was Frits---and the rest is history.
Over the years I have come to understand Frits as a man who made a covenant with life: I will give you my best.
In giving his best, he chose a pathway that reflected his profound respect for the sanctity of life: focusing his work on the rights of women and children around the world to receive quality healthcare and be treated with dignity and compassion.
His commitment was enduring; his courage well known; his compassion ever-present and his energy and optimism boundless.
By giving his best, and then some, he made a difference for so many people.
And by giving their best to Fritshis loving family helped make that gift possible.
I am so sad for your loss Jill, Jean and Lodi.

I'm so sorry to hear of Dr. Broekhuizen's passing. I was a resident at MCW from 2000 to 2004 and I had the honor of having him as a mentor. I truly enjoyed working with him and staffing patients with him. Despite the tiresome life as a resident, he made learning fun with his sense of humor.

We want to extend our most sincere condolences to the Broekhuizen family. Dr. B cared for my wife and delivered out 1.5 lb daughter at Froedtert Hospital 7 years ago Without his expertise, compassion, and knowledge, we would never have the joy of our healthy daughter Abigail. His legacy will live on through all the lives he has touched over his lifetime. We will forever be indebted to him!

My heart goes out to all of you that are so close to him, this is a hard loss for me. The road had been bumpy these last few years but when ever I got the opportunity to see his face and hear that chuckle it made my day. I worked in labor and delivery for 15 years and have lots of memories of Dr. B. The best memories are night call when he wanted a snack and ice cream was his snack of choice. It didn't have to be his ice cream but it was his snack of choice and we made sure he had plenty around. Such an advocate for women's health all around. Frits you will be missed!

Our most recent memory of Frits was of his unloading his golf clubs from the trunk of his car with his usual big grin in the early spring of last year at NSCC.
WE will miss the unbridled enthusiasm and courageous good will of this exceptional man!

After we had moved to Madison WI I had an appointment for my check-ups with "my own" Dutch Doctor. Doctor B just started his residency in Obstetrics. It was so nice I could talk Dutch to him and to ask him everything about my first pregnancy! He delivered our oldest son - more than forty years ago. Frits was a great doctor and we became good friends. He was very special to me and we will miss him terrible. Our hearts and thoughts are with you Jill, Lodi and Jean.

Dr. B was a passionate and tireless physician, an enthusiastic educator and really, really kind man. He was a champion of Women's Rights, he had a great sense of humor, and he always generously gave me his People magazine :) He will be missed by patients, colleagues and friends alike.

I found Dr B in 1999 after having two second trimester misscarriages. Dr. B helped me to successly carry two beautiful baby boys to term in 2000 and 2002. He remained my Dr. until the time that he left Froedtert. He was a wonderful caring doctor who even called me at home after learning that I had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009. That phone call and his encouragement meant so much to me. He was my angel and I will never forget him. I am so incredibly sad that he has left this world! My deepest condolences to his wife, family, friends and collegues.

Frits was a exceptional mentor and friend. Not only was he able to make his students better, he taught all of us about social justice before we knew what that meant. Patients understood that this man would respect their humanity and honor their suffering. We have lost a great man.
