Georgia Tsopelas Obituary

Georgia Tsopelas

(Nee Mathes) Age 86, of Milwaukee, born to Eternal Life on April 3, 2021. Georgia was born on February 23, 1935 in Milwaukee, and is survived by "Johnny," her beloved, faithful, and devoted husband of 65 years; her loving daughters Marisa (Richard) Lewis, Gina (John) Dussi, Angela (Gina Vadnais) Tsopelas, and Georgeanne (Gary) Fularczyk; her adoring grandchildren Jason (Yiota), Lexi, Andrea (Mike), Joey, Ben and Meghan; and her sweet great-grandchildren Averia, Emy, Dimitri and Yianni. She also leaves behind many special nieces, nephews, and friends. Georgia was preceded in death by her parents Angelo "Frank" and Eugenia Mathes; her sisters Marina "Mary" (the late Epaminontas) Bourantas, Jane "Jenny" and Katherine "Kay," and her brother Phillip.

Georgia fought many illnesses courageously through the years at home with the love and support of her husband, daughters, and home health caregivers until six months ago when she was moved into an assisted living facility. In honoring her last wish, Georgia's family brought her home on April 2nd where she died surrounded by her loving family less than 24 hours later.

Georgia was a lifelong and active member of Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church where she was involved in the many ministries of the church including choir organist starting at age 11, directing and singing in the choir for decades, organizing food festivals, fashion shows, anniversary celebrations and choir conferences, co-authoring the church cookbook, and actively participating in the Philoptochos Society. When her daughters were in school, Georgia was President of the PTA, a Girl Scout leader, and was involved in many other school activities, clubs, and organizations. Georgia was full of life (she was the "life the party"), brought a smile to everyone's face and welcomed everyone into her home. She was a gracious hostess who loved to cook and entertain, hosting parties and celebrations for over 100 people as if it were just another family dinner. She loved the Green Bay Packers (especially her "adopted" son Brett Favre), loved to sing (just say a word and she had a song), tell stories, play games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and treasured spending time with her family and friends. Georgia touched the hearts of family, friends and strangers, bringing joy and happiness to everyone around her. Even in her final days as she struggled through her suffering, she found a way to smile. Georgia leaves behind a legacy of love and will be dearly missed by all.

The family would like to extend a sincere and special thank-you to the staff at Seasons Hospice (especially Jeanine and Deaune), and the staff at Creekside Terrace.

Visitation will be held at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2160 Wauwatosa Avenue, Wauwatosa, on Saturday, April 10, from 10AM-12 noon. Funeral Service at 12 noon. Private burial at Wisconsin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Georgia's memory to Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church (Welcome to Our Parish Website | Sts Constantine & Helen stsconstantinehelenwi.org) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (StJude.org).
