H. Gardner Obituary

Dan was called home to be with the Lord after a long and courageous battle with multiple myeloma on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at the age of 74. He was Vice President and Insurance Counsel for 39 years at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. He was a loving husband, proud father and devoted grandfather and friend. Dan loved his cabin on the Flambeau Flowage and enjoyed many happy times with family and friends fishing and hunting.

Dan will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Sharon (nee Schultz); cherished sons, Don (Debbie), Jerry (Mary), Jason (Jessica) and Steven; daughter, Patricia; precious grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah, Kasey, Codie and Daniel Gardner, Courtney and Jocelyn Smith; step grandchildren, David, Steven, Christian and Kelly Eversen, and special friends Dr. Edward Smith and JoAnne. Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Pearl (nee Jorgenson) Gardner.

A Funeral Mass for Dan will be held on Saturday, April 8 at 12:00 Noon at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 1755 N. Calhoun, Brookfield. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America-Wisconsin Chapter, 4125 N. 124th St. #A, Brookfield, WI 53005 or St. John Vianney Catholic Church.

Special thanks for the caring and support provided by our dear circle of friends, Dr. D. Vesole, Dr. P. Hari, Dr. D. Hackbarth and all the wonderful nurses and staff of the Froedtert BMT/Hematology Oncology Team.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We are saddened by Dan's passing, but happy that we had the opportunity to know him. May you be comforted by memories and the faith that there is a life beyond this life where love goes on and on.

Sharon, I was very sorry to hear about Dan's death. I offered up prayers for you and family last night in church. May Dan find peace and happiness in the great hunting land in the sky.

I worked with Dan in the Law Department at NML from 1980-1985. He was a great guy. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was very much a father figure. He will be deeply missed.
