I am so saddened to hear of Dr. Viets' passing. Yes, Dr. Viets was my boss but he was so much more to me. He always had time to meet and listen to my ideas. He was a mentor. Many times he invited me to his office and we would just sit and talk about my commercial aspirations for my designs. He even had me and a colleague from MCW over for lunch with Woody Adkins in this same context. And he paid for lunch! Dr. Viets was the kind of person who knew everyone by his/her first name. It was a pleasure to work with him.

May family and friends find comfort in knowing that ALMIGHTY GOD and his son JESUS CHRIST care about you especially during this difficult time, and will give you the needed strength to endure the sorrow cause by death. Please read JESUS loving words found at MATTHEW 11:28-30. My sincere condolences to all family and friends.

Dr. Viets will be missed deeply. I always enjoyed his way of thanking the faculty and staff of Milwaukee School of Engineering for a job well done year after year. When I gave invocation in one of the commencement ceremonies, he said to me I like your prayer, not because I am in it (as I prayed to God to give him wisdom to lead the University) for which I am grateful but because you appreciated God's generous blessing of our University and students. He always had a smile that he was proud of REU program I led. I would have liked him to enjoy the retirement a bit more but God's plan is different and until we meet on the other shore, so long, Mr. President. Prayers for the bereaved family. Subha Kumpary, professor of mechanical engineering.
