Iris May Amend

Amend, Iris May Born to Eternal Life November 12, 2007, amidst the comfort of her loving family. She leaves behind her children, Iris Ann (Gregory) Weiler, Kenneth (Maureen), Constance (Joseph) Januzzi, Deborah (William) Volm and Jennifer Amend Szerenyi, and twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband and only love Kenneth George Amend, her daughter Kathleen May, her parents, and her beloved cats and dogs. Words fail to describe the woman that Iris was and what she meant to her family and friends. She was born in Wyocena, WI on June 3, 1917. She married her true love Ken and later settled to raise her family in Milwaukee. Widowed at a very young age, Iris championed to be the model of strength and wisdom. She was a coveted fun loving mother and a gentle and adored grandmother. Great-grandmother-hood brought her profound joy, as it did for those who called her "MiMi" and "GiGi". In her seventies, she became a published poet. Her life was enriched by the arts, poetry, and play reading. Iris was deeply interested in justice and social outreach. She was an advocate for the needy and facilitated "Meat loaf Monday" at a local community center for decades. She was active at LaFarge, enjoying cards and senior soccer. She died as she lived, with grace and compassion and in the bosom of what she held most dear. Committal will take place Saturday, November 17 at Wyocena Cemetery in Wyocena, WI, at 11:00 AM.
