Jeffrey Jones Obituary
Jeffrey Douglas Jones was born December 21, 1968. He was called back to the Lord on December 25, 2020.
Jeffrey was born in Milwaukee, WI, and resided in Depoe Bay, OR. He received his PhD in philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He later earned a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School. He was currently working as a law professor at Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, OR.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Ulysses Jones. He is survived by his wife, Attorney Tamara Jones, his mother, Brenda Jones of Milwaukee, WI, sisters Sherri Jones of Rockford, IL, and Stacy Jones (David DiIorio ) of Westerly, RI, nieces Safiya Colbert (Keary) of Inglewood, CA, and Karmen Taylor-Jones of Milwaukee, WI, plus many relatives and friends.

My first law professor! Professor Jones, you were the best. You made us all eager to learn and broke down the complexity of the law into something manageable and exciting. Jeff was a friend from graduate school in Madison. I met Jeff through a mutual friend, Mario Sims, another Black professor. As Black Ph.D.´s, we laughed and joked with each other about Oakland, Compton, and Milwaukee, our cities of birth. Jeff, Mario and I had talked in December. He was funny and humble as ever. For Mario and me, this hurts. Born Black men, surviving, earning doctorate degrees and professing as Jeff did, is a life well lived. A life of teaching the next generation. We will miss Jeff.

Professor Jones was an excellent motivator during challenging law school classes. I'm in shock, just like the rest, that someone so young would be taken away so soon. May he rest in peace.

I remember the Messmer graduation of 1987. Jeff won so many awards they made him stay up on stage to save time. I'm certain his impact on the world will continue for generations. Those who were close to him must feel tremendously fortunate, which makes his loss that much more painful. I'm going to try my best to be more like Dr. Jones.

Jeff was a great person. He was kind, humble and smart. Rest assured though he was ready and willing to take on anyone if it involved his family or friends. And if you were fortunate enough for him to call you your friend, that was a great thing. I always took a lot of pride in being Jeff´s friends. It was a badge of honor, an affirmation that I was a good human being. If Jeff thought you were cool, you were.
We spent many an hour talking about both the ridiculous and the serious. The transition between the two was so fluid, sometimes we would forget if we were debating or laughing or in a pause. The pauses were my favorite. He and I would look at each other, think about what each had said and then think some more. Then usually take a swig and laugh. And then back at it, in whichever place we were.
Jeff always thought of others more than himself. He found people, including me, that needed a bit of help and did so help. He was amazing. I think everyone doubts their routes in life, what decisions they made, how life has progressed. I will say this. Whatever decisions I made to meet and befriend Jeff, I did something right. Those decisions are therefore totally and completely worth it. Period.
Jeff, you are and always will be the man. Period.

Jeff and I became friends about 7 years ago in Depoe Bay. He was a wonderful friend. We talked way too much about life, philosophy, law, his Packers and my Patriots, and bourbon. Did I mention life and philosophy? We loved talking of that.
My girlfriend Jeanne and I went over to see Jeff and Tamara on his birthday to have some of his famous Milwaukee brats, some Wisconsin cheese and a few other goodies from his home state. We laughed and laughed, as we always did. We talked about him taking another "sabbatical" next year and what he and Tamera were going to do during that time. We talked about him working for me at my liquor store because he was bored and needed something to do.
I miss him too much.

I had Jeff at Messmer both in English and Speech class. Initially, Jeff was a reluctant public speaker, as most people are. But Jeff was tenacious, studious and incredibly kind hearted.
I taught hundreds of students and he in particular stands out in my mind.
He accomplished much in his short life and I´m very certain was a great source of pride.
Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. May Jeff Rest In Peace.
