John Flanary Obituary

Flanary, John R., Dr.
82, of Burnt Store Marina passed away March 25, 2008, after an extended illness. He was born December 12, 1925, in Rochester, MN to William and Josephine (nee O'Keefe) Flanary. Dr. Flanary graduated from St. Charles High School in St. Charles, MN in 1943 and served for 3 1/2 years with the US Navy in the South Pacific Theatre. Dr. Flanary worked at Olmstead Clinic in Minnesota and St Joseph's Hospital in Milwaukee and Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls. After retiring he moved to Punta Gorda in 1998 where he could be close to the ocean. Dr. Flanary loved to sail which included places like the Great Lakes and the Atlantic on his famous "Wild Irish" boat. He will be remembered as an aggressive, to say the least, yachtsman and for captaining his boat "The Wild Irish".

Dr. Flanary will be greatly missed by his wife Almarie; 5 step-children: sons Thomas, Michael, Timothy and Patrick, and daughters, Susan Reidy and Kelly Ann Nitschke; brother, Dr. Lawrence (Annette) Flananry; sister, Mary Jo (Frank) Aiken; sisters-in-law, Margaret and June. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Ilene, and brothers Robert Flanary and Dr. James Flanary.

A Memorial Mass will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 28, 2008, at Our Lady of Miraculous Medal in Pine Island with Father Michael Hughes officiating. There will be service in St. Charles, MN at later date. To express condolences to the family, please visit www.Ltaylorfuneral.com and sign the online guest book.
