Mrs. Jewell and family, thank you for sharing such a wonderful person with all the families at Franklin High School. John had 2 of my children in class and when I didn't think I could get through to them he was there to help. God Bless you John Jewell.

I've had the privledge of knowing John and his siblings for my entire lifetime growing up directly across the street from this wonderful and crazy Jewell clan. No words can really come close to expressing how much sorrow I feel at this time for Sue, the children and grandchildren they have and for John's entire extended family. John and Sue's Wedding was the 1st Wedding I ever went to ... South Hills Country Club ... Wow. what fun we had as kids. John was the biggest, the oldest, and the leader. John was the kid I literally and figurativly looked up to in our neighborhood . R.I.P. "Slick" you will be missed greater by many more than you could have imagined.

After attending the viewing last night, I was overcome with the flowers, pictures and momentos marking his life on earth. But will always remain is his spirit. He was always willing to help colleagues and several times came to my rescue when my car would not start or i had a flat tire. I know he was an inspiration to so many teens as well as everyone he met. I am so sad that you must go on without him physically, but he will always be in your heart as well as many others. God bless and Keep you.

I had the honor of getting to know John while we both worked with some challenging students at FHS and my shared jounrney with him will always be remembered. He was a kind soul who met the kids where they were, and encouraged them to be responsible and hopeful. He never gave up on them and they knew it! He will truly be missed but he leaves the greatest of legacies! As his family, you should be proud-he is the grandest and will be joyfully welcomed in his new home. Always in thoughts and prayers....

To the whole Jewell family, please accept my condolences. John and I competed against each other in automotive competitions with our high school students. I learned so much from John about cars and about life just from our times together at MATC Skills Olympics and ADAMM competitions. As many of his students said already, he taught so much more than automotive, he taught about life. He was a super guy and a wonderful fellow auto shop teacher. We are all blessed by having the opportunity to cross paths with John. What a good man and what a great auto teacher!

I worked with John for many years at Franklin High School. He was never too busy to help or offer advice. He always had a smile when I saw him at the high school or at St. Mary's. God blessed your family with a wonderful man and I am sure he will be smiling at all of you from heaven! :)

Fran and I taught with John for many years....he was a 'gentle giant' among our student body and the faculty. Dry sense of humor, patient and respected by all. He now rests with a loving God who welcomed John home with open arms. May God hold you and your family in the palm of His hand.

Sue I'm so sorry to hear about John, I remember how much fun we use to have. The Halloween party we had at our house and he came in with that silly looking mask we all laughed so hard. And the time I we came over on my 40th surprise birthday party with the blue car and all the black balloons. Remember the car was a stick shift and George had to show me how to drive it.Always remember the good times there was so many.the car race that George won; all the BFI partys we went to.I just wish we had taken more time to come and see you guy. I Have come to realize now that life is so so short and we should spend more time with friends and family. He was a great and funny man and I will miss him dearly. Please take care of yourself thats what he would of wanted. Love violet

Mr. Jewell was a great teacher and friend to me throughout my time in high school. He helped me graduate and for that I will always be grateful for the chances he gave me. He not only taught us auto mechanics but he taught us life. I remember staying till ten at night shooting a film for him. I was so happy he chose me to help him and I was lucky to get a anytime pass to head down to the auto shop. I wasn't the best student but he looked past that and saw more in me then the other teachers did. I worked in the construction field after school and ran into him often. I still to this day remember him say BARTZ. In his stern loud voice always joking with me. He did so much for me I can't even begin to type it all but he will be missed. Now John has become a legend at FHS. I feel bad for the kids that won't be able to be taught by him. They are all going to miss all the things besides being a teacher he brought to the class room. I personally will miss you John. My love goes out to your family. I know its not easy to lose a family member and especially your dad. To all his children remember the great times you had with him cause I remember the times I had and well I only had him as a teacher for 3yrs. I can only imagine the love he gave to his kids. He was a great man and will be missed deeply. Forever in our hearts.. God speed John. May God bless your family and help keep there spirits up during this hard time. You will never be forgotten. God bless you all....

I was saddened to hear of the loss of John - but with faith, know that God has him now healed, and Jesus welcomed him home, with new plans for him.
I was introduced to John yrs. ago by Mr. Press, as the "go to" guy for Auto Tech. As I shared SAE opportunities for kids with John, he led with extra effort to encourage kids to participate and learn real-world experience.
May God bless your family with love, care and strengthened faith.

Sue & Family,
When I first met John at Franklin HS, he intimidated me; He was physically intimidating. As I got to know him over the years, I realized that was just his facade. He was the kindest, most giving teddy-bear I've ever known. He gave my husband a job which saved my home. As a teacher at Franklin, he helped me raise my youngest son, Chris, who will carry on John's legacy. I will never forget John. I will never be able to thank him enough for all he has done. He was loved by us and we, too, will miss him dearly.

I had Mr. Jewell for study hall many semesters throughout my years at FHS. He was the kind of person you always wanted to be around. I saw him save so many kids from the darkest parts of themselves simply by respecting them, and of course cracking a wise guy joke just to let them know how much he really cared. Mr. Jewell was a great man that impacted many lives. He will never be forgotten by those who had the honor of having him as a teacher. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Jewell family; his passing is a huge loss for the FHS community. R.I.P Mr. Jewell

John,
It has been a long road but way to short. For someone who has been a Friend, Mentor, Teacher,Father, Grandfather, sometimes a prankster, an insperation to both Young & old.To teach, play, raise a Family and have a work ethic as You have had and to have this all taken away from You and Yours at such an early age before You were able to really sit back and enjoy what You have accomplished is just so wrong. You have been a Great friend,Employer,Co Worker, Sometimes a cranky Boss. What You have taught Me through the years in work & Life will & has allowed Me to make it as far as I have in life. You My Friend will be So missed, Loved,& never forgotten. We all know it will be so hard for Sue, Joey (the Bird) and the rest of the Kids & All those at Franklin High School and the so so many people who's Lives You have touched & made such a strong impression on the roads they have taken. John it will be very hard to not have You in our Lives physically any more, but Spiritually You will be there to still Mentor all of us in our minds and Hearts.Thank you for being a Big part of My life and all Those You have touched along this short path. You will be so Greatly Missed & Loved by one and All.You start the Ground work in Heaven and set up shop & We will follow You one by one in the years to come.Until We can say we bought it but it needs a little work, I'm with You on that and Don't tell Sue again My Friend. I'll Miss You Sir.
With Love admiration and Thanks. 10-4
