John Schapekahm Obituary

Of Wauwatosa, age 86 passed away on Tues., Dec. 14, 2004. Born June 27, 1918. Survived by his beloved wife, Bette (nee Miller) of Wauwatosa; son John E. (Kristine); daughter, Susan L. Gahagan; grandsons, Kurt J. Schapekahm and Jonathan E. (Jennifer) Schapekahm; granddaughter, Sandra L. Gahagan; great-granddaughter, Anna Schapekahm and other relatives and friends. He was devoted to his family and church and enjoyed his many friendships. Preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Ida (Neudeck) Schapekahm and his sister, Dorothy R. Blaisdell.

John graduated from Marquette University in 1940 with a BA in Business Administration, majoring in Banking and Finance. He married Bette in 1941, living happily together for over 63 years. His main career was with Jos. Schlitz Brewery for 27 years where he occupied various financial and administrative positions, retiring in 1980 as the Assistant Corporate Secretary. He served in the Army for 4 years during World War II in the Finance Corps at the Army Finance School and retired as a Captain. He was an active member of the Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church for over 50 years.

He was active in the Masonic Order of the DeMolay, became Master Councilor, Scribe, Installing Master Councilor and received the Chevalier Degree. He joined the Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity while in school and was also active in its Milwaukee Alumni Club in later years, serving as President and Treasurer. John loved the outdoors, animals and enjoyed completing projects with his family and in his home.

Funeral Services Fri., Dec. 17, 7 PM at WAUWATOSA PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (2366 N. 80th St.). Private Interment Valhalla Memorial Park. In state Fri. at the church from 4 PM until time of Service (7 PM). If so desired, memorials to Wauwatosa Presbyterian Memorial Fund or the charity of your choice appreciated.
