John Walch Obituary

John O. Walch Jr.

Mequon - John O Walch Jr. of Mequon, WI, passed away on December 1, 2020, after a battle with COVID-19, at the age of 81.

John was born on April 2, 1939, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to John and Helen Walch (Kundert). He graduated from Riverside High School and Milwaukee Institute of Technology with a culinary arts degree. John was married to Nancy Boder in 1961. John and Nancy lived in Frankfurt, Germany, while John served in the army, eventually settling in Thiensville. John was the longtime chef and co-owner of Boder's on the River restaurant, where he mentored generations of chefs. Together, John and Nancy worked hard at the restaurant but always remained deeply in love and were a model of how to live life. John was very proud of his Swiss and Scottish Heritage and a longtime active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Thiensville, WI

John is preceded in death by his parents, brother Peter (Judy) Walch, and his wife, Nancy. John is survived by his sisters Catherine (Dennis) Kincaid and Elise (David) Wilson. Son John III (Jim Shopofski), daughter Suzanne (Andrew) Wagner, and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Walch. John was adored by his 5 grandchildren Matthew (Carly) Walch, Timothy (Amanda) Walch, Kelsey Wagner, John IV (Ashley) Walch, and Andrew Wagner Jr. He was also loved by many other extended family members too numerous to name.

A private family funeral is being held with a future Celebration of Life to be held later next summer. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, should be sent to Grace Lutheran Church, Thiensville, WI. John's family urges everyone to wear masks and stay safe.

I was so, so sad to hear of John's passing. I am one of his SilverSneakers instructors at the Y and he was a faithful member for so many years. He was a wonderful man who always had a smile and a kind word. He will be sorely missed.

To John's family - especially to the children. I am saddened to hear of John's death. I have nothing but good memories of the 8 years during which I worked with John, and Nancy and occasionally minded the children in the restaurant. May the Lord bless you and keep you.

So sad for all of you. He was a great guy and I will cherish the memories. He certainly didn’t deserve this COVID virus
