Kenneth Nowak Obituary

Nowak, Kenneth R. "Ken/Kenny" Age 71, passed peacefully on Friday, November 7, 2014. Son of the late Ralph B. Nowak and surviving Elenore "Ellen" (nee Wysocki) Nowak. Loving brother and friend of Karen Olds (Dennis), dear and fun uncle of Chris, Matt (Heather), great uncle of Sonnie; brother of Kristin Marunowski (Jim), uncle of Scott (Suzette), great uncle of Eva, Ezra, Ella, uncle of Robin Rueb (Hardy), great uncle of Brittany and Lauren, uncle of Jon; cousin and friend of Sandy Buchta. Kenny was an avid gardener since youth, loved his dogs Peanut and Buddy and was a train enthusiast, having traveled all the lines throughout the U.S. and some in Canada. Ken served in the U.S. Army and later rose to the rank of Master Sergeant as an employee of the 84th Division, U.S. Army. He was a proud and dedicated member of the Milwaukee Metro NCO Council, having served as secretary for over 12 years and editor of the Council newsletter, which he initiated. Before retirement, Ken supported our military in the capacity of Executive Director of the USO Council of Greater Milwaukee. Kenny overcame life's challenges and chose to change "negatives into positives" through faith and trust in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Kenny will be loved, missed and always remembered by his family and friends for his enthusiastic, gregarious, helpful and giving spirit. Private services were held.

I happened to see this obit of Kenny when I returned from a week-long vacation that took us along the Mississippi River in the Lake Pepin area. I was a young Captain and later Major at the 84th Division's 3rd Battalion, a Field Artillery unit located on 51st Street and Silver Spring Road. Ken was the most knowledgeable military reg person I knew. He supported me so thoroughly in my tenure and not only was he my right-hand man, but this knowledgeable
individual was the "go-to"-guy for so many other young officers he took care of. Ken was such a wonderful, peaceful, courteous man. I wished I had more contact with him after I retired from the Army Reserves. Ken was such a great person that I am proud to call " my friend ". Rest in peace dear friend.
