To the family of Lula Chambers:
I would like to express my sincere sympathy to her entire family. The loss of a mother is especially painful. I can truly imagine what you must be going through right now.
I hope you have the inner strength to deal with your loss and to carry on as she would have wished for you. I am sure that although she is gone, she will always be remembered.

Be Still
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

To the Chambers Family,
As I tried to articulate at the visitation last night, your mother was a mother to all of the children of Highland Park. I haven't forgotten the many lessons that I learned while working for and with her at "The "Building." One lesson, in particular, has stayed with me for over 32 years. "Excuses are tools of incompetence that build monuments of nothingness and those that specialize in them are seldom good at anything else."
My home/work life has been guided by this quote given to me at 15 by your mom. It was her way of saying to me - don't let your circumstances (poor, bi-racial, female) become an excuse for not doing great things. Success is in you, so no excuses!
Today, I am a "success" by human standards, and I thank Lula Mae Chambers for seeing "that" in me at 15. Thanks again for sharing her with all of us.

We are so sorry for the lost of such a dear soul. Mrs. Chambers was so kind to us as she called us her babies. Marcus, Randell and I will always hold dear to us the words of wisdom she so kindly shared and the special times we enjoyed just listening to her talk. Bless you all, The Rush's

To the Chambers Family
You are in our thoughts and prayers during this time of great loss. Mrs Chambers had a great impact on me and many other women growing up. She was one of the FIRST strong women that I have memory of as a child and those memories are still present as an adult. Her physical presence, warm heat and sharp tongue, always stood out and set an example of what being concerned, compassionate, and giving person looks like.
with love and condolences from the BRAXTON FAMILY

I was saddened and shocked by the passing of Ms. Chambers. My sympathy goes out to the family. Ms. Chambers was always an encouragement to me. I remember her always saying, 'Whatever you decide to do, be the best at it'. She was a 'real' woman. I remember her from my days as a student and classmate of her children while at Urban Day. She, along with Mrs. Barbara Landry, was a part of my first exposure to really strong, outspoken women and I treasure that even to this day. She will be greatly missed but her spirit lives on through her children.
