The mass will be live-streamed on Maria's obituary page of the funeral home website (maxsass.com).

In addition to being her family's matriarch, cheerleader and moral compass, she also served for 24 years as the CEO of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin, tirelessly advocating for the upward mobility of the Hispanic and greater Milwaukee community at large. She impacted the lives of many all while living by her own ideal of "Adelante juntos" (Forward together).

The family is thankful for the loving and attentive care of Dr. Peter Johnson and Lindsey Sisco, APNP and their entire staff.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin or St. Joan Antida High School appreciated.

I met Maria when she was dating Ed. Over the years I´ve lost touch- but Maria has always been on my mind and in my heart. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She worked so hard and took such good care of everything. I will miss her dearly. Feel free to reach out if you ever want to share stories, I´d love to talk about her. Sending some much love and light.

In the past 30 years, my dear friend Maria held the energy of grandmother, mother, sister, and daughter for me, and I am honored to have been in her inner circle. I had the pleasure of serving at her side for many years on the board of directors of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin where she served as executive director for 24 years. I enjoyed my first encounter with Maria Sixty years ago, at Monreal’s on 6th street, the family tavern and restaurant. She did not know me at the time, but I observed her and some of her siblings helping at the restaurant. Maria was a fierce crusader of equity and opportunity for all people in the community. I recall sitting at her table at one of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce National Conventions, when the new all male national board was being introduced. Maria stood up in front of over 1000 attendees and repeatedly shouted “WHERE ARE THE WOMEN”. Within seconds, everyone stood up and shouted out as well. I will miss her endearing reference to me as Juanito and the many lunches and events we attended together. I extend my deepest sympathy to Maria’s family and the community for your loss. She will forever rest lightly on my heart.
