My lifelong thanks to Mary Mellowes for connecting me to my new husband.
Mary Mellowes '32, 1985 president of the Smith Club of Milwaukee, was generous in all ways to the club from hosting meetings to donating note cards of her artwork for sale for the Smith College Club of Milwaukee scholarship fund. Even a friend of her late husband Charles, continues to contribute to the fund each year. Mary and her late sister Dee, Dorothy Allen Hyde '36 (died March 18, 2009) were 'regulars' at Smith College club events.
I admire Mary Mellowes the artist. Her talent flourished even when a stubborn shoulder forced her to switch to the non-dominate hand. Mary, practical and so beautiful.
Fondly,
Nan Fitzpatrick and Lee Gierke
