Michael Regan Obituary

Regan, Michael John September 1, 2009. Michael John Regan, M.D. was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Feb. 14, 1935, to James and Viola Regan. He was raised in Wauwatosa and attended Marquette University and Marquette University School of Medicine, where he graduated at the top of his class and earned the Millman Award. He married his sweetheart Barbara Zemlicka, of Aberdeen, South Dakota, in 1960. After a period of national service for the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, he underwent training in anesthesiology at the University of Iowa and the University of California Cardiovascular Research Institute. Dr. Regan entered into the private practice of anesthesia in Medford, Oregon, where he worked for 33 years and raised a family, which he considered to be his greatest achievement. Mike Regan loved classical music, especially piano and chamber music, had an extensive collection, and loved attending concerts with his wife and family. He was an avid amateur radio operator and enjoyed tinkering with electronics and engineering projects, which occasionally worked well. His lifelong ambition of being a pilot was reached ten years ago, when he took aviation lessons. Mike will be remembered for all of this and for being a loving husband and devoted father. He was a gentle soul and cared deeply for others. He had a quiet wisdom, humility, and understanding about him, and had a way of bringing out the best in us. After a gradual decline from the effects of Parkinson's disease, Michael Regan slipped from the arms of his family in Corvallis, Oregon, and went to be with our Lord on September 1, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Zemlicka Regan, and his children James Regan, Michael Regan, and MaryNell Regan Rocco. Mike was blessed with grandchildren Rachel, Nicole, Allison, Thomas, and David. He is also survived by his brother James Regan. He will long be remembered. A Memorial Service will held at 2PM on September 4, 2009, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Corvallis, Oregon. Remembrances may be made to the OHSU Foundation, designated to the Parkinson's Center of Oregon (www.ohsufoundation.org). Condolences can be sent online to the family at: www.mchenryfuneralhome.com

Barbara and children, I grieve for you and with you. Although many years have gone by, I remember our friendship with fondness. I have no words of wisdom to offer but surely a good soul such as Mike will enjoy the glories of the hereafter. May your hearts find peace.
