I heard Nick speak a couple of times, in about 1970. He was so high-energy that after one speech it was remarked that "If Nick ever dropped speed, he'd probably disappear."

I hadn't realized that he'd passed until I idly put his name into a search engine, as I do occasionally with old friends and acquaintances.

It's only taken the world 3 years since his death to descend into hell. We could use more like Nick to lead us out.

I met then Fr. Nick Riddell when he was studying Pilipino at the Ateneo Graduate School, Padre Faura in Manila, Philippines. This was the summer of 1963. I was a student of English, helping out the many missionaries to learn Pilipino. Nick became a friend and a counselor to me, throughout the years until he left the Philippines, sharing with me through letters how he did his mission work in the Prelature of Infanta. I still keep two books I received from him as a gift: A Jerusalem Bible and the Complete Works of St. John of the Cross. The last letter I received from him speaks of his art works and interest in painting. For years, I have been trying to find out where he is, asking the Carmelites. They could provide me with no information. Thank for this and I am very grateful to him. VICTORIA B. PARCO Notre Dame de Vie, 123 Susano St. San Agustin, Novaliches, Quezon City, Philippines

I was a neighbor of Nick's for many years on Lincoln Ave.
Look up " Perfect Neighbor" in the dictionary and there is a pic of Nick. A beautiful, nice guy that loved art.
he kept many art supply houses in business.
RIP Nick
