Paul Sicula Obituary

Sicula, Paul E. Passed away March 17, 2017 at the age of 78. Beloved husband of the late Marna (nee Koshakow) Sicula. Cherished father of Howard (Kathy) Sicula and Michelle (Ruben Sundeen) Sicula. Loving grandfather of Patrick Sicula, Elijah and Lola Sundeen. Dear brother of Marilyn Sicula and Faith (Norbert) Bybee. Loving uncle of Heather (Randy) Warren and Hillary (the late Fred) Pioso, Mica Matsoff, Jordanna (Kyle Stapleton) Matsoff, Bari (Ron) Leventhal, and the late Mark Hansher. Further survived by other loving relatives and dear friends. Paul was a graduate of Washington High School, UW Madison, and University of Wisconsin Law School. He was research editor of Wisconsin Law Review. Paul served in the United States Army Reserve 1959-1965. Paul was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1966 through 1976. He was the chairman of multiple committees including the Judiciary Committee and Insurance and Banking and was an active member of other committees including the Joint Committee on Ethics. During his time in the legislature, Paul fought for civil rights including the right to equal housing opportunities and women's right to choose. Paul was most well-known for fighting to enact protections for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and wrongfully injured. Upon retiring from the State Assembly, Paul worked as both an attorney and a licensed lobbyist. Paul was the lead Wisconsin lobbyist for clients such as the Wisconsin Association for Justice, Citibank, and Philip Morris U.S.A. Paul practiced law with specialties in personal injury and criminal law until 2016. Funeral services Wednesday, March 22 at 1:00 PM AT THE FUNERAL HOME. Burial to follow at Second Home Cemetery, 3705 S. 43rd St., Milwaukee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made to the Leukemia Research Foundation, 191 Waukegan Rd. Suite #105, Northfield, IL 60093 appreciated.

Paul was a mentor to me when I was first elected to the Assembly in 1976. He was deeply respected by other legislators. He was always calm and prepared on the floor. I loved his sense of humor. He stood up for workers, minorities, women and Milwaukee.

I worked for Paul for 20 years and he was both a boss and a great friend. He was a very loyal friend and had a tremendous witt. I will always remember him fondly.
