Peter Pizzino Obituary

Pizzino, Peter J. "Pete" Born May 12, 1923, at rest July 13, 2014, age 91. Son of Basilio and Rosaria (nee Lagi). Preceded in death by sisters Carmella Gardner and Agatha Sanchez and brothers Anthony and Joseph. Survived by sons Jerry (Eileen) and Dale (Denise) and daughters Carol (William) Brown, Rachel (Ryan Hawken) Pizzino and Jessica, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a multitude of nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends. Special people in his life were Antoinette "Toni" Marchese, Linda Sherman, Charlene Woods, Jean Buehl, Tim Snider, the Zens family and a special friend and devoted caregiver, Anne Buckley. Peter was born and grew up in Milwaukee's Third Ward. A blue collar worker during his early years, he was a truck driver, mechanic, welder and heavy equipment operator. A back injury caused him to learn another job. He chose tailoring, which he enjoyed immensely. He soon established Baywood Tailors, first in Shorewood then in Whitefish Bay. His business thrived as his reputation spread and he employed several part-time tailors and seamstresses around the area. His clients included comedian, Jerry Lewis, several professional athletes and prominent people of the region. On closing his shop and retiring in the mid-nineties, he wrote a book called Peter's Story about growing up and living during the depression era in Milwaukee's Third Ward. In the later years, Peter emphasized his desire to include a heartfelt "Thank You!" to his many loyal customers. He was a member of the congregation of both Our Lady of Good Hope Parish in Milwaukee and Christ Church in Whitefish Bay. Peter was a 33rd degree Mason and recently achieved his 60th year of affiliation with the Scottish Rite. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Village's Chapel at 7300 West Dean Road, Milwaukee, Monday, July 21, with visitation at 6PM until time of service at 7PM, followed by refreshments. Mr. Pizzino's cremains will be interred in Christ Church's cryptorium in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations to "Bell Tower Memorial, Inc." would be appreciated. THANK YOU to my loyal customers Peter Pizzino, Proprietor Baywood Tailor

Peter was my patient at Community Care, I was his RN. Let me say that in my meetings and caring for Mr. Pizzino, I quickly learned that he was an AMAZING man in his younger years AND at the time I worked with him. He often spoke of the love he had for all of his children, and spoke about them incessantly. This was an UNSUNG Man. I admired you Peter and you found a special place in my heart. My husband and I would talk lately, and I'd say I wonder about Peter Pizzino often. My husband also met him. He thought Peter was quite the character. We loved the reads in his book. He took great pride in the book. I'd often wish that it could have more readers because of the way he portrayed the early third ward and all his dealings with the other characters in his book. He'd say, well you know I'm selling my book for $12. The book was captivating and took the reader with no prejudice right to the scene. I've looked for my book, I'd like to have another. Also He'd often brag about how good a cook he was. Spaghetti was his specialty. I miss you Peter and may you rest in Heaven. God Bless

Peter was our cugino across the street on Kendall Ave in Glendale Wisconsin. Peter would kid around and say "if only he were 20 years younger...." Our family enjoyed his company during Sunday dinner, Holiday or Special Occasion. Peter even went to Italy with my parent Filomena and Joseph Greco for a trip of a life time. A time they would talk about every time they would meet. People don't remember thing they receive, they remember the times that they share. I'm glad we met you Peter, and I'm sorry I was not able to see you before you left but as I told you on the phone and now your family and friends, you are gone but never forgotten. We shall see you again as Jesus promised us everlasting life on heaven. Tina and Dale Menghe AKA Greco

Pete with Cartwright family, 2003

July 16, 2014

To the family of Pete Pizzino:
My husband and I would like to add our condolences to you about the death of Pete. Pete was a friend of Ernie Cartwright and in the late 1990s and 2000's, Pete was often a guest for family dinners many times. He often bought Italian sausage and peppers and he was always fun to have around at our parties. After Ernie's death in 2007, we did not see Pete as often, but remember him fondly. It was a pleasure knowing him. Best wishes,
Carol and David Cartwright, Whitewater, WI
