Randall Crocker Obituary

Randall D. Crocker

Milwaukee - Randall D. Crocker passed away Sept. 23, 2019, a week before his 65th birthday. Beloved husband of Kathleen Allen and father of Margaret, he is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Mary Kay and Rick Roseneck and nieces Rachel and Julia and by extended family and dear friends. Randy was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin and graduated from Edgewood High School. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts degree from Drake University in 1976 and his law degree from Marquette University in 1979.

He joined the Milwaukee law firm of von Briesen & Roper S.C. where he specialized in commercial, corporate and public law matters. He rose to the position of President and CEO in 2004 and led the firm through a period of rapid growth, more than doubling in size to over 350 employees in nine offices across Wisconsin.

Recognized by the publication "Best Lawyers in America" continuously since 1996, he was selected as its "Lawyer of the Year" three times and listed among the Wisconsin Super Lawyers three times. The Wisconsin Law Journal selected him as a "Leader in the Law" and he received numerous other professional awards during his career. He served as president of the Board of Governors of the 7th Circuit Bar Association and was a fellow of the Wisconsin Law Foundation and the American Bar Association. He lectured at the law schools of a number of prominent universities and colleges.

An active member of his community, he served as chairman of the Board of Directors of Discovery World, was a past Commodore of the Milwaukee Yacht Club, a Board Member and President of The Milwaukee Club and Bailli of the Milwaukee Chapter of the Confrerie of the Chaine des Rotisseurs, and served as a Board Member and Officer for the Pabst Theater Foundation and the Milwaukee Dancers Fund of the Milwaukee Ballet. He was a member of the Greater Milwaukee Committee, the Milwaukee Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, the Public Policy Forum and the Marquette Law School Board of Advisors.

Randy was an avid outdoorsman and often hunted duck and upland game with his boon companions, including his trusty chocolate lab Trixie. Those who know Randy will remember him as a Churchill buff and Anglophile as befitting a perfect gentleman and great lover of food and a good glass of Burgundy.

Friends and family will gather to share memories of Randy at a private gathering and he will be laid to rest in one of his favorite hunting fields. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Lakeshore Veterinary Services Pet Care Foundation, the Ruffed Grouse Society, Attn: Kim Shwisher, 451 McCormick Rd., Coraopolis, PA 15108 or the Milwaukee Dancers Fund.

Randy was one of my first, and most beloved, clients. He always showed up on Randy-time and always worked incredibly hard (when I could get him to shut up). He went out of his way multiple times with favors for me and I will forever remember him for his generosity. He presided over my very intimate wedding and insisted on writing everything himself, naturally. I cannot imagine the loss in his family's life right now. You will be missed by everyone, DJ RCRocker.

So sorry to hear about Randy. He was a good friend in law school and I stayed with him in his apartment as I was moving to Milwaukee. We spent time socializing, laughing, studying for exams at the Lichsten office, and commiserating about the challenges and stress. I was happy to see him for a short time at the reunion and he was clearly proud to report recent news of his family. Even though we haven't seen each other much in recent years, I will miss him. May your memories comfort you. As a fellow lover of hunting dogs, a contribution will be made in his memory. Joel and Janice Massie

I'll miss discussing dogs with Randy. He was a loyal fancier of the Chocolate Lab. I tried to talk him into other breeds, but he was steadfast! RIP Mr. Crocker.

I can't believe it. Randy and I did not generally practice in the same circles, but we occasionally bumped heads. His name is so well known and reputation as a hard guy on the outside, but reasonable and passionate on the inside. I'm sorry I did not know him beyond the law, but I don't have to speculate that he is a great man, dad and husband. Huge loss to the legal community and really causes me to look at where I am in my life. The law and the courts will continue, but what's really important stops, at least for a moment. I'm very sorry. Please accept our heartfelt condolences from the Bucher Law Group and myself. God bless you and your family.

Dear Kathy and Margaret,
I am so sorry. My heart aches for you. I haven't seen Randy in a while, but I miss him.
Like his beloved Churchill, Randy was bold, whether tramping through fields with his lab or commanding a conference or court room. He was not one to pull in his horse as he was leaping.
If I still had a bottle of '77 port, I would open it and lift a glass or three to my friend.
Randy knew we only live once, and he gave of himself and lived life to its fullest. But damn, he had a lot more living to do and he left us way way too soon.
Mary KayI'm so sad to hear that your big brother has left us.
