I fondly recall this wonderful young dynamo as a principal of the former Garden Homes Elementary School. Students and staff knew that her focus was on literacy and self improvement. As the Community Superintendent during that era, I experienced a hallmark principal in her engagement. Throughout our respective careers, it was evident that she maintained her commitment to excellence. She loved her daughter, grandchildren, golf and homeland. She soared and has a legacy worthy of being revered for distinguished service.

To the Rebecca Abraham Family:
I am heartbroken about the passing of friend and colleague Rebecca Abraham. Becky was an outstanding educator whom I personally worked with nearly 50 years ago, at Pierce Elementary School.

A bubbly personality. A giving & caring woman always making sure everyone was happy & satisfied. I met you at a Simbang Gabi & last year with the Filipino choir we sang Christmas carols to the elderly at 5 different locations, I had so much fun! & literally lost my voice! Lol! You were a communion distributor or a wine holder (can't remember which one, but wine is good, Lol!) at St. Judes & after mass we chatted about my going with you on a medical mission to the Philippines, I looked forward to this. I tried to reach you via the phone # you gave me after mass but you didn't return my calls. Therefore, I was on a mission to see you so on Christmas Eve before midnight mass last year I dropped in and you were having a festive gathering and wanted me to stay but I was entertaining a priest from India. You loved God and praying and you took me to another Schoenstatt chapel near your house & we prayed the rosary together. It was so peaceful! I tried reaching out to you again & you never returned my calls. It was early December that a Filipina friend told me that your Leukemia came back - I never knew you were ill & last night I learned you left the earth and didn't say good bye to me. I am sad but extremely joyful for you. I pray that the heart of your daughter and all family members heals soon and that God embraces each and every one of them with a warmth that comforts to which explains he is near. Whenever you feel sad or troubled, immediately look up to the sky, it does give peace to you. God bless all of you!

Our thoughts and prayers for the Abraham's family in your time of grief. Rebecca or tita Rebecca as most of us fondly call her, made a huge impact in my life and that of our Fil-Am ladies prayer group. She inspired, encouraged and modeled to us what it means to live selflessly and joyfully amidst life's many trials. Her legacy of unconditional love, compassion, kindness and strong leadership skills will continue to resonate in us. In behalf of Project Josiah Literacy/Feed ministry whom she faithfully supported through the years, we are planting a Tree in her honor at FFG elementary school in Bacolod City, Philippines. A reading center will also be dedicated in her honor at the same school where she visited in 2009 along with her beloved mother Esperanza. Thank you, Abraham family for sharing with us your wonderful and caring big sister, Rebecca.
