Richard Suleski Obituary

Suleski, Richard A., Jr. "Captain Rich" Our beloved son is gone doing what he loved. Rich died June 16, 2007, on the bike trail at 35 years of age. He had so many adventures in his short life on earth. He was a merchant marine at 19 years of age taking him to the Persian Gulf. He was a realtor, worked for the Salvation Army and was a riverboat captain on the steamboat, Julia Belle Swain. At age 25 he bicycled all 48 states. Rich self published his own book "Ten Thousand Miles of America". He had a pod cast called "The Dairy Air Good Time Hour". Finally he was a student and security guard at Carroll College, working to complete his degree in Journalism in 2008. We will all miss his great sense of adventure and humor. He will be missed by his parents, Richard Sr. and Sharon Suleski; special sister, Sherry "The Berry"; sister Sally Newbury (the best man in her life); the two pas' Lloyd and Doris Pundsack, and all the relatives and friends who knew and loved him. Visitation for Rich will be Wednesday, June 20, at St. Mark's Ev. Lutheran Church, 424 Hyde Park Ave., Waukesha, from 1:00 PM until the 5:00 PM Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made to Rich's two favorite charities; the Salvation Army Waukesha branch 445 Madison, Waukesha, WI 53186 and the Milwaukee Rescue Mission 830 N. 19th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53233. Rich always said he found God in nature, now he is on his last great adventure where he will surely find God. I went to High School with Rich and bumped into him again when I was an insurance agent when he worked for ReMax. Someone said that he took off on a bicycle to ride across the country. Years passed and one day I thought about Rich, so I typed his name in the Google search engine and found his book...which I bought and read cover to cover. We continued emailing each other about his next adventure. He later emailed me to join him on a bike ride last fall and doggone, I should have gone. I was going to email Rich this week about sending a copy of his book to my brother in Arkansas.

Rich embodied a sense of wonder and adventure that I always respected, and always will.

Dear Loved Ones of Rich:
Rich and I became friends when he took a geology course I taught at UWW a few years ago. We first became closely acquainted when I made a joking reference to John Hartford during a lecture and he was the only one in the group of sixty or so generally younger students, who laughed, making me eternally grateful. Aside from a coincidental common interest in John Hartford, we also discovered a mutual interest in biking and I had hoped to spend some time cycling with Rich when I returned to Wisconsin this summer. He was the most free spirited persons I've had the pleasure to know.

Dear Dick and Sharon, So so sorry to read about your son. Barb sent me the clipping via email. These are the times it's hard to be so far away. Maybe we can see each other in August. Love, your cousins Al and Bobbi

Dick, Shar and Sally,
Whenever I think of Richie I get so sad. He was so special and played a very special part in our lives. He was so full of adventure. He surely lived life to the fullest. You can be so proud of him. He accomplished so much!

Our prayers are with you.

Dear Dick and Sharon, and everyone:

We heard late Saturday about this, and I just saw the notice. We are so very sorry for your loss! He had an extraordinary life, it sounds like. A true adventurer.

We hope your pain is eased by the memories of a life well-lived with love and exuberance.
